I decided to buy a set of new spark plugs for my 89' 944 2.7L.
Knowing that 'Denso Iridium' Spark Plugs are good. Anyone using this?? Any comment of the products?? Please help!! Ivan |

Haven't heard anything about them.
I would imagine if they fall within the same parameters as regular bosch platinums you should be good to go. I think bosch platinum 4's are overprices and way over-rated. AFJuvat

i used bosche platinums in my volvo and my last 944, in both cars the platinum turned into little balls that covered the whole tip of the plugs. this also occured in my brothers corvette. it cant be good. ive only talked to one guy about iridium plugs. he had an integra type r w/japanese motor, turbo, and nitrous- in the low 12's. he said the iridiums can cause predetonation in some cars because they spark so much faster than a regular plug, the timing of the spark is then premature. i personally have no idea, just passing that along. copper is excellent for spark plugs, better than platinum, but requiring replacement more often. silver plugs work well, bosche and beru make them. i now use triple tip bosche coppers in the 951.

How long did it take before that build up happened. I dont want to check them all the time but I do want to get rid of them before that buildup starts. They work great when they are new. One of the plugs from the PO was missing the nipple on the top of the sparkplug, I bet that cyl was not firing very well.

Iridium is often alloyed with platinum (up to 30%) to add strength and increase the melting temperature. The alloy is probably proprietary to the manufacturer of the plug. I would bet these plugs are more expensive compared to platinum 4's since the price for iridium is much more expensive than platinum. However, I have heard cases similar to the one above and even worse where the electrode actually falls off and then causes damage to the cylinder wall or valves. If someone is considering platinum 4's, the new iridium versions may certainly offer better performance with less risk.
