OT: Little Confused about Message Boards

Ok,
I am a die hard Pelican Parts Message board user. But I was told of a link on Rennlist about something I am looking for. Anyway I see the same posts on this site as I do there. Do most of you ask the question twice, once here and once there? I see alot of the same names here as I do there. Has this been a real advantage to getting the answer you desire? Just wanted to know because I felt like I was cheating on all of you when I posted on Rennlist (Still haven't got a response there anyway which I know you all would have gotten me a response by now).

Just My Thoughts
Thanks
Thom

I'll explain my own situation:
Here, I get to know each member a little better than at Rennlist - so the opinions they offer carry some more weight (or less) based on how I perceive their own strengths and weaknesses.
As an example - many here probably realize that if you have a complicated question regarding cylinders, pistons, or other innards, you won't usually get a response from me. AVJuvat, Lawrence C., SoCal, and many others (can't list everyone here) are better prepared for that question than I am.

However, If I need an answer fast, I usually post both places; rennlist has many more listers that periodically post, so the probability of getting a quick reply is slightly higher.
I read both, and do so too often!

That's my rational anyway - maybe others have different opinions.

For one particular example - the email I sent you with the link to rennlist - I just found the link there by chance today, so I cut and pasted it to you.

What's "interesting" about some of the double posters is that they never listen to anyone on either board.

I post on both boards. I'm starting to post more on Rennlist than here...even though this place is my home page when I get online.

If I have a question that I need to know real quick I will post on both boards. Some times I will get an answer faster here, sometimes there. Most of the time I will get more answers over at Rennlist, but sometimes it is the opposite way.

I'm basicly torn between both boards. I'm a paying member over at Rennlist and I just bought someone a membership (I owed him BIG), that person was/is also a floater between the two boards. I also have a free membership to give away, like a sponsorship...those at rennlist will know about the post I'm talking about that TaboII started.

What am I trying to say, I have no idea.

I'm just glad for both of the places!

I noticed there is definately some overlapping but I think that is good. I found out about the aluminum a-arm rebuilds over there and there is definately more traffic over there. I'm also glad for both places -- the more the merrier. I just wish there was places like this for my other cars (Honda)/truck (Chevy)!!!

I have recently started lurking around Rennlist after being a local here for awhile and they do get more traffic therefor I will sometimes get an answer quicker over there. However as it has been said here on the Pelican side I know who the serious wrench heads are and feel a little more confident about taking there advice. Both boards are open forms and I have not gotten flamed for cross posting so I suppose it is okay.

Stray - What is the deal with becoming a member? Is it like a PBS thing where you enjoy the service so you make a donation? Do you get anything other than a custom avitar and a good feeling for supporting the board?

Kinda like that, but you get so much more. You get a membership card, a lil sticker. You can get your own @Rennlist.com email. You can get access to the members only site. You get access to members only classifieds. I BELIEVE you still get 100MB website. You can get discounts to some vendors and you can get access to great specials on some things every once and a while. And John D. will be having a HUGE get together next spring/summer. I know they did last year at the Hershey swap meet, but they didn't this year. I asked him about it and he said he is going to put something together for next year.

To me, the $18 is well worth it, even if you don't get any of the things that I mentioned. He is doing this on his free time, he is not making money off of this. He is putting the money back into the rennlist community. He is also putting together something called the "Natalie Streather" fund. Natalie was the daughter to a frequent poster on Rennlist who tragicly died. The community at Rennlist embraced the Streather family and organized this fund to help out other people in the same circumstances. The Streather Fund got publicity over in Europe during the Le Mans because the name was on Kevin Bucklers Porsche GT3 that won the GT class. John and Jen are putting tons of time into Rennlist. They deserve all the help they can get.

I support Pelican by buying parts BTW.

The $18 is the best "investment" I have ever made.
