short shift component attached to the tranny
Recently I purchased a short shift unit that bolts on the shift rod and the transmission linkage in the the rear of the car. It came with no instructions. Have any of you had experience with installing these units. I was told that it 'just bolts on' but I'm never that lucky. Do I need to remove either the exhaust or torque tube to get at the hardware to be replaced? How good are these things...are they worth it?

I don't have one of those yet but on my last car I had fabricated my own by cutting down the stock shift lever so the throw was alot less. It worked very well and was very pleased with it. I would imagine that yours would perform the same.

951carter - thanks, this is excellent. Perhaps someday I can do the honors. I'll let you know how the short shift performs.

overkill - this unit is different that the shifter at the knob. It's actually a replacement part that attaches to the shift rod where it connects to the rear transaxle. Supposedly, with it, you'll feel a quicker, crisper shorter shift.
In contrast, shorting the shifter bar at the knob in effect shortens the distance your hand travels but in reality doesn't shorten the shift. I did replace the shifter and knob with as well and it feels nice but I want to take it that extra measure.

Yeah, i saw that. To truly shorten the throw,... trim the top of the stock or purchase a short shift lever.
