A/C Charging Help. Hurry

Lawrence helped me diagnose the problem. When I short the pressure switch wires the clutch kicks. That may mean that the freon is low. Ok supposibly it was converted to 134.

First how do i check to see if it is 134?

Second there is a red plug on the drivers fender area and a blue plug by the compressor under the car. how do i charge it or check the pressure? I see a $30 refil kit at the local autoparts store for refilling that has a pressure gauge.....

Thanks again. No pressure, my car is on ramps and it is a really nice day today.............

Thom

You introduce freon in the low pressure side of the system - usually indicated by the blue plug. Test the connections with a pressure gauge before you fill it though - you don't want to attach a can to the high pressure side.

R-12 fittings look like tire valves, R-134 fittings look more like quick connect fittings on an air compressor

I have 134. I bought a refill kit and the instructions state to run the car for 3 minutes then hook up the gauge. It does not state to leave the car on or shut it off? That is where my question is. Because I hooked up the gauge with the car off and the pressure was 150-160 way to high. Should I have the car running?

Thanks in advance.
Thom

ps I can't hook the gauge up to the high side because it does not fit.

You charge the AC with the engine running - again, check your pressure before you charge.

Over 100 is the high side.

AFJuvat you have been a great help up to this point. This is where you need to pull all of you AC wisdom into one post. It is the low side.(the larger diameter hose. and the blue "L" cap). I have troubleshot it to this point.

1. Turn on car
2. Turn on AC, compressor does nothing.
3. Hook up tester to low side. Down by the compressor. 120PSI Danger
4. Turn off car
5. Flip up headlights
6. Start car.
7. Meter low pressure switch. (Open 0ohm)
8. Short wires. Clutch Engages.
9. Shut off Car.
10. Start Car
11. Turn on ac really cold and compressor turns on.
12. Turn AC off and turn car off
13. Turn Car back on and AC no longer works until I short the pressure wires.
