Anyone know how much the MoTec M4 costs?

Also, I read that there is a M4 Clubman and there is a M4 Pro, from what I read about it the Pro is better but I didnt see it at MoTec.com. How hard is it to setup MoTec Stand-alone? Any of you guyz know?

The MoTec M4 is a progammable ECU or a stand-alone fuel management system. The M4 supports up to 4 high-flow injectors in sequential mode. I just wanted to know if anyone knew how much it was. I tried looking but know one posted a price. Also, they make it sound like it is easy to set up, is it? I dont think it is but I was just curious. Also, is the M4 good for a 951? They have other ECU's that andle more injectors and have more logging memory for analysis, does it matter which one is used?

none of the Motec stuff is easy to setup, if you have th expertise the Electromotive TEC3 is now out. I've seen some silly fast 951s with the TEC2.

Wow, looks nice. Well, I can't say I have the expertise but I am willing to learn. The TEC3 any easier to setup then the M4? Cheaper? Exactly how hard is it to configure one of these things? I have alot of free time and patience.

For a TEC II on a 944 na, it takes some wire splicing on the 9 pin plug. I made a pin extractor. You no longer need the VAF (that thing with the flap betweeen the breather & throttle body). You use a MAP sensor instead. Pick up for ign & inj is done off a trigger wheel instead of flywheel sensors. You can either use a crank or cam mounted trigger wheel. A mount has to be fabbed for the sensor. You don't need the stock coil or DME. The throttle switch has to be replaced with a POT type TPS, it takes an adapter. You can use a $40 Motec D shaft sensorthat will fit the throttle shaft. A PC has to be used to set the parameters (program ign & fuel curves). Stock injectors can be used on 944, but on a 951 you need new ones with lower coil restance.

Some of these things have changed on the TEC 3 , I'm pretty sure. Another engine management you may want to check out is ITA (I think this is it, maybe IDA). According to an add I read it can be used with a lot of different pick ups , coil & distributor, so stock could be used.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember playing with carb jets & dist timing. A TEC II lets you do this the modern way.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. Well, that is not what bothers me, what bothers me is configuring it to run the car. How is that? I not going to run everything stock on the car. I mean I am not afraid to spend money on the car. Like I said configuring it to run the car, is what scares me.

I recently bought an Electromotive TEC 3 but, simply haven't had time to install it yet. I looked briefly at the MOTEC stuff. However, the cost is absolutely outrageous. I considered Haltech because it's a bit less expensive than the TEC 3. However, it doesn't have quite the features that the Electromotive unit has. The TEC 3 is fully programmable from inside the car using a laptop. It utilizes direct fire ignition via coil packs under the hood (does away with the distributor). It completely replaces the DME and KLR which means you lose the factory boost gauge (same with any stand alone system). That was okay by me because I'm not using it now anyway. Ultimately, what swayed me towards the TEC 3 is that there are a good number of folks who have experience using the Electromotive stuff on 944s. So, there's quite a bit of support available within the 944 community. With Motec the only support is from the shops that still install them for full blown racing applications. When I bought the TEC 3 is cost me around $2800 for everything except the mounting brackets for the crank trigger sensor and the TPS. However, I believe I'm going to get a different trigger wheel and sensor bracket to allow me to mount everything within the belt housing. That's going to run $125. I'll also invest in some firebraid and shrink wrap tubing to make the wiring harness look like a professional job.

Regards,
Clark

overkill,

tec II has data logging & you can monitor while somebodies to fine tune. This is done with a Windows program in a laptop. I think this is further advanced in the Tec3 to allow monitoring of more sensors, etc & a longer data logging. The thing good about these systems is that you can tune for mods , big cam, improved exhaust, porting, big throttle body, big injectors, etc.

good luck fletch. On my Tec II I'm picking up on the cam, where the distributor used to be. Your way would be better for performance since your timing won,t flutchuate with belt stretches from valves opening & closing.

Sounds great, when my time comes I think I will take this route. It just tickles my funny bone just thinking about how well my car is going to perform when all done.
