Question clock replacement

what steps needed to take clock out of 1983 944
please be specific! thanks

1) Remove two screws visible on top corners

2) Pull off the 3 HVAC sliders (pull with a little force) and pull off the fan speed knob

3) Using a flathead, carefully pry off the bezel that surrounds the HVAC sliders. It might be clipped on at the bottom. Don't worry about breaking the clips, you can use 3M mounting tape to get it back on even if you completely eff it up.

4) There are 2 more screws visible now, remove them

5) Now, pull on the main plastic shroud that goes around the top and sides - hard, but without breaking any plastic. It might take a couple minutes, but it will eventually come out to expose the goodies behind it.

6) The clock is attached by a metal piece that holds it against the plastic face. Remove the two thumb-screws, and remove the metal foot piece. Unplug wiring and remove clock.

Remove the 2 top screws first.

Then you need to remove the 2 tiny bolt head screws on the bottom under there in white. I use a forceps.

This is very easy if you are mechanically inclined you will need a steering wheel puller. You will need to pull the cover off the steering column by removing four phillip screws under the column and the dash cover under the column by removing 3 9/32 screws. You'll need a 10mm socket to remove the air bag it has 4 nuts that hold it on the back side of the steering wheel next you'll unplug the air bag and horn then remove the 16mm nut holding the steering wheel then use the puller to remove the steering wheel. You'll see 3 screws on a black disk that's the clock spring. remove the screws and unplug the wires connectors under the dash. pull the wires and clock spring up through the top of the column. to install just reverse the process.

Please make sure you disconnect the battery and wait at least 30 minutes to an hour or more. You see, the air bag circuit has backup power in the form of charged capacitors, it takes about 20 minutes to discharge once battery is disconnected. If you don't take this step before clock spring replacement there is a chance of air bag deploying while you are removing it from steering wheel.

?????^^^^^'83 944 does not have an air bag.

Question

after removing heater bezel, I don't see two visible screws that would remove that matching silver heater bezel. I do see two pretty small holes on sides underneath to the extreme sides....is that a screw up in there, hard to see?

Clock repair

My notes show that in January 2007 I fixed the clock that was blowing fuses. It was one of the two capacitors inside the clock that had a discoloration. Used a $1.29 Radio Shack 272-1044 100uf 50volt capacitor; unsoldered the old one & soldered in the new one. Carefully fold back the crimp all the way around to open up the clock, the metal is soft. Fold the crimp back when done. Still keeps time today.

If I recall correctly one only has to loosen the hex head screws shown with the white arrows in the above photo as the screws are in open-ended slots; I found the right size combo wrench in a metric ignition set. The three heater slide controls just pull out as does the fan switch knob. The remaining trim plate has two plastic locating pins on top; just be gentle and they won't break. No need to remove the steering wheel, but I would certainly disconnect the battery for safety. Once the heater control face plate is removed there are two more screws that become obvious if I recall correctly.

Right!^

The 2 round AC blower/temp knobs are removed by gently pulling out and there is a round plate that is removed under the knobs. It is threaded to the AC blower temp knob switch.

88Silver924S thanks for the tip on the repair of the clock. I have 3 bad on the shelf I can practice on.
