So today I wet sanded the primer and painted! I went a little too fast and got some paint pooling in a few spots. So I waited for it to dry a bit and then misted it several times over the course of half an hour and it came out pretty good!

And my favorite photo...

I'm Done Polishing

I'm done polishing!

I did the following: Rubbing Compound, Swirl Remover, White Diamond Polish!

I just learned this 5 minutes ago! Don't use a microfiber towel remove the White Diamond Polish! I was disappointed after I used the polish and buffed it out with a microfiber, as it looked grey! I dawned me, that maybe I should try a tad more abrasive cloth, like terrycloth. Oh, man 100% improvement!

These rims were rough, to say the least! They are 10 times better than I would have hoped for! Thanks for posting this GTR! I'll be painting on Monday!

I'm going to be using Rostoleum, wheel paint, silver, then clear, front and back.

Centers

GTR34,

I noticed that your centers, must have been painted. Mine seemed to be anodized. Stripper won't touch and neither will the sanding! So, I'm gonna paint my silver and then color in the logo, like the hood badge.

well, you see, I put stripper on mine and it was still black. They may be anodized, but what chromed mine was a lot of sanding! I think you'll get a polished look you desire if you take some time to cut through that crap on the surface. It's only a surface layer, not the whole way through.

Also, remember if you're using a somewhat higher grade spraybomb silver paint with one of those blue and yellow nozzles, Don't spray too much at once! I've found that patience here is key. I stood back at least 12 inches and just misted it so that the paint fell on the rim. If you blast it, it will start running and pooling in the flat areas, and it looks awful. Remember to sand your primer!

Update time!

I peeled the tape off so it wouldn't eventually become part of the rim. The tape edge was God awful. Lucky for me though, there was a bit of paint hanging over the peak of the small lip that is down where the spokes meet the barrel of the rim. My little secret to a pretty crisp paint line is very simple- use your fingernail. I used my index finger at a slight angle to the lip and ran it very slowly around the edge to shave off the nasty line left by the tape. The results are much better than I expected! It almost looks pro! (Don't mind the pits on the center piece, those were there before hand, I didn't feel like patching them because it's not a show car) I'm just waiting for the paint to cure so I can Clearcoat it. What do you guys think?

Sorry for the double post, but I think it's essential to see this. Using the best multitool available, my fingernail, this is how I got the paint edge to look

Price Increase

Awesome Job! I had to mask my polished area off, to where the transistion starts to go up, mine were rough in these areas. so I just got it polished out. So, i'll have about a 1/16 of band of silver. It was not fun to mask and get even trimmed with the exacto knife!

I think I just heard the value of Cookie Cutters go up!

For the life of me, I don't get why FUCH's are so expensive and have appreciated so. Not my favorite!

Me neither! I'm glad to hear cookie cutters are appreciating, though. By how much? I can't wait to put these on my car! Do you know where I can get good tires for lower prices than a tire shop?

Cool! I'll have to do some looking myself. Do you know how to set the tire bead yourself?

Tire Change

Last minute change. I was able to get the Falken ZE-912's after all. I did some research on this and several guys are running this tire.

ZIEX ZE912 TIRE | Falken Tire

Tire bead?????

Also, just stopped by Michaels and picked ups some Testors Model paint to paint the crests on the center caps.

About a year ago I got a set of 215/60r15 ziex-512s put on my phone dials at discount tire and it was about $220 out the door. They were all less than 8 months old too. You might want to try that.

Wow, that's a very reasonable price. Any other good tire recommendations?

Tires

GTR34,

The tire choice is lacking to say the least. Like I said, if you do a search of the forums, you'll see just a few recommended tires.

Okay, I did this to my center caps and they are all done!
