I have a 87 944NA with 127 K miles on it the oil pressure was reading in the normal range 4-5 bar at operating pressure. Now afer my 3000 mile oil change its reading 2-3 barit goes up when the rpm increases but not much, at idle it is 0. I have taken out the oilpress relief value is there any what to do a test on the valve out side of the car..If it need a new valve fine... but I hate to spend money on it if the old one still works. any suggestions?

Did you happen to change the viscosity or brand of oil to a different one? If you use a lighter weight oil, then you will find that you have lower oil pressures, which is typically okay. I don't have the spec on this valve handy, so unfortunately, I'm not sure what it should release at. I will copy this question to the forums to see if anyone has this spec.

Since you already had the oil press relief valve, test the plunger for free movement. Use a wooden dowel and press on the plunger through the hole in the front, and see if it moves in and out freely. You might be lucky it was just a small debris got caught preventing the plunger to close all the way. Before you put it back, make sure you replace the two o-rings, one external and the other internal. Good luck.

Pelican has the OPRV -oil pressure relief valve- in the parts department. $444 and this is a good price for a new OPRV Pelican Parts - Product Information: 944-107-035-11-M100 Did you spill your coffee??? ![]() If you do a search on this board you will find instructions on how to test and rebuild the OPRV and replace the 2 "O" rings. (and save the $444) GL John

massive has an excellent write up on the OPRV.
He has a few others if you search as well and are very good. Like massive says in the DIY, you do not need the alignment tool if you just remove the OPRV. If you replace the gaskets on the oil cooler you do. Pelican does not sell the "late" 944 OPRV alignment tool. BUT---there are 2 OPRV "O" rings on the OPRV valve. Outter and Inner. Pelican sells both. Here is a DIY on how to change both. Information provided for future members who use "search". TSB 19017 ![]() ![]() GL John

hey everyone, I just wanted to verify that the "early" o-rings will work on the "late" OPRV. I am assuming they do since they are mentioned an no one specified they didnt, but I would hate to pull apart my valve and then be stuck for a while.
Also, my valve moves freely, looks fine, but I am only getting 1 bar at idle and can hear the valves. Is it still likely to be the valve? or should I start looking at other things while I wait for my o-rings to arrive? thanks, Pete (if my signature isnt updated: 1987 944S Blue on Cream, SOLD! 1990 944S2 Blue on Cream, on jack stands. John_AZ,
I tried to install the inner O ring in by oiling it, and pressing it in with the O ring fitted onto the shaft. The O ring tore. I ordered a new one. Should the O ring be fitted inside the hex head part or fitted on the shaft during pressing? Thanks for the info. |

kcladnier,
Sorry reply many days late, my brain is still 7 time zones away. I do not know the year of you car. The O ring should install snug and not be damaged when lightly oiled. Did you get the correct "Inner & Outer" O ring for the OPRV? ![]() MORE INFO ![]() I hope you did solve the assembly problem. J_AZ
