Replacing clutch in 944
How long does it take to replace a clutch? I know the steps, I think, but I have only replaced clutches in Honda's and Chevy's.
There is a big car show on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in several weeks. 1986 944 |

An NA can be done in 12 hours if you have done a few. A turbo is another story all together.
I was like you, I had done many Chevy clutches and a few imports. My first crack at this took me about 13~14 hours, spanned over two days. I got stuck extracting the the clutch fork pivot rod, otherwise it would have been less.

First time, plan on spending a weekend doing the project - If you don't have access to a lift, you are going to need a few floor jacks, jackstands, and an extra pair of hands - a cheap furnature cart can be helpful too..
Tools: You re going to need a flywheel lock, and a 12 point driver to remove the CV bolts. You should consider removing the flywheel and having it resurfaced, as well as replacing your rear main seal (located behind the flywheel) while you are in there. Pelican has about the best deal around for a complete clutch kit - it has everything except the flywheel seal - not a bad deal for under $700. AFJuvat
