N/A Block compatibility

Saw a discussion of block compatibility between N/A and turbo here: Engine block compatibility

What about compatibility for N/A from years 83 - 85/1 (early models)? Are they the same?
What about the blocks between 83 vs. 85/2 engines?

I have an early and a late model 85 (I know, what the hell was I thinking) and I might have a chance to pick up a parts car cheap and want to know how compatible the engine parts might be.
Also, my wife doesn't know I am here asking this question, so don't tell her! She is supportive but is gonna ask where I plan on putting it...and I DON'T KNOW!!!
Thanks guys!

There are external detail differences between the two generations of engine. The dipstick, of all things, is different so the bracket bolt holes don't line up(í am using one bolt rather than the original two, to hold my dipstick tube in on the '88 engine I have put in my '86.Also using the '86 wiring loom as the newer one has plugs for things my car doesnt have.
