So $800 is a decent price to pay for a rebuilt.

RJ Santangelo 10-03-2002 01:43 PM

Yes but what do you classify as rebuilt. Are they doing all the seats, giudes and checking for warpage???

Makis 10-03-2002 01:46 PM

Definetelly if the rebuild head has new valve guides/seals/valve springs and head skimmed. So ask for the rebuild history.

overkill 10-03-2002 01:54 PM

Yo, it's from Huntley Racing. They said they have rebuilt fully assembled heads. Go check it out. Here:

944 S, S2, 968, 928 4V (X2)
$2000 core charge applies

Stage I - Basic re-build with new valve guides, valve stem seals, proper shimming, seat work, fully assembled. Price $800

951carter 10-03-2002 02:19 PM

That's about $350 worth.

You will still have to buy all the valves yourself and most likely all new valve springs.

This is really turning out to be a nightmare!!! I have a headache going to bed, overKILL out,...

Just get a used one. I heard a while back that George over at 944 ecology had a couple 16v heads.

overkill 10-03-2002 06:54 PM

I emailed George at 944ecology.com, lets see what he has to offer.

RJ Santangelo 10-04-2002 08:18 AM

I just saw george last night i gave him a 16v head and he just recieved a junked 944S with a good engine. I know he has a few heads lying around about $1200-$1300.

88_944 10-04-2002 12:21 PM

Good luck overkill! I did only 2 944 8 valve head jobs but not a 16 head before. You can do it! :D

overkill 10-04-2002 02:13 PM

Yo this is what george has:

Bare head, $1300 exchange.
Head with Valves, $1700 exchange
Head with Valves and Camshafts, $2400 exchange.

That is too much. I think i'm going to have a talk with my uncle and see what he can do. He is a mechanic and has alot of connections. Ill see if he get get somone to do the head for me. I dont know

RJ Santangelo 10-04-2002 02:31 PM

overkill did you bent the vales or something? If so I wound just take the head down to the shop and let the guy replace only what needed. The cost would be low.

overkill 10-05-2002 07:37 AM

Yeah, I bent the valves on ignition. All I want to do is replace what is needed so I can get the car back on the road to sell it. I just remembered that theres a repair shop about 20minutes from that always has p-cars out there. They are an import shop. I'm going to hold off a bit. Then make some calls.

RJ Santangelo 10-07-2002 06:51 AM

where in jersey do you live

overkill 10-07-2002 07:32 AM

I live in south jersey, Willingboro. It's exit 5 off of the Turnpike. I did some shopping today. I purchased some stuff to help organize my efforts of remozing the head. I got ziplock bags to store away bolts and ****. I got a permenant black marker and labels so I'll be to remember what everything is I got a new mech light(brother broke the last). I also got a nice work table on 2" casters that im going to use for the laptop to take pictures and type notes. Dont friggin laugh you wrench heads:D None of this stuff is going to do me any good today seeing that I just got down cutting the tip of my finger off. Yes I cut the tip of my finger off trying to get the table out of the box:) You guyz still have faith in me right? Riiiiiight? I think I will just read the factory manual over and over toady and maybe suck down a couple shots of vodka to ease the pain. Doesn't hurt that much, it's just throbbing right now. You guyz want a picture? HA HA HA !
