Ross,
The one attached to the the bellhousing (the motor) is the slave cylinder. if this has just been replaced, it's probably the master cylinder that's bad. How long ago was the slave replaced? Usually, when either one goes, and you only replace the one that went, the other one goes pretty quickly after it. No idea why they seem to go in pairs, but they do. It could be air in the lines, but it's probably the master cylinder. you can always try bleeding it first, since it doesn't cost anything, and if it doesn't work, you're no worse off than you were before. Anyone have a good procedure for bleeding the clutch system? it's not easy to do, since the bleeder screw is at the bottom of the system, and air rises in liquid, it's difficult to get the trapped air out. Myself, i use an old master cylinder cap, fitted with an air fitting. i can put 3-5 PSI into the master resevoir, and that works good for bleeding both the brakes, and the clutch, but that requires a spare air cap, and a compressor with an very accurate regulator (to keep from blowing up the resevior) Mike |

I've always had good luck using a vacuum bleeder.

The slave is about two months old. I will look into the master and possible air in the line thanks for your help.

A quick check of your master - look up behind your clutch pedal - if it is driping fluid, your master is shot.
You will have to be a little creative in changing the master - it is in a pretty tight place (very doable, just a little tight) Use extreme care in reconnecting brake fluid lines to master - you definately do not want to cross thread it strip it out. AFJuvat

I have a reciept from a 968 engine rebuild. it was done in Germany and I can not decifer what it says. Could I send you a copy of the reciept and have you interpret it for me. Iknow it is a PITA. So no offense taken if you are to busy to do it for me. Thanks Ross |
