Keyless Entry
I bought a generic Remote Keyless Entry system last week. It looks pretty simple, but the wiring diagram for the car doesn't look quite so simple
![]() I will figure it all out somehow, and post how I did it in the next couple of weeks. DK

I'm not sure how the wiring is all done but when I had my key-less entry installed, the shop had to install an extra lock actuator in the driver door. They told me they needed to do it this way because the central locking system only locks the doors when the key is off and would be difficult to override. So, they installed a lock actuator in the driver door and this works because when you push or pull the driver door lock knob, it operates both doors.
Unfortunately, this does not operate the rear hatch. I suppose this could be done but I did not get this feature. Vern |

I had mine installed, too. They said it was a major *****. I also had to have actuators installed (mine didn't have power locks to begin with). I had a two-way alarm put in, too. Total cost was about $800.

I just has an alarm put in my car. I have no power locks but I was thinking about adding them to lock with the alarm on and unlock with the alarm off. Anyone do it themself? Do I only need to hook up an actuator to the locks and then to the alarm?

Just bought the actuators to add power locks to my alarm system. I am getting all the wiring done tonight outside of the car to make sure everything is working properly before I install it. I will install them tomorrow. I have read online a couple people that have done them.
I still have my alarm booklet and it comes with a pretty decent diagram to wire everything together including the two new relays.

So I figured it all out. Fitted the Remote Keyless Entry without too much trouble to my 968 cab. It was all pretty straightforward except 2 areas:
1. Trunk Opener - this is the bit I needed, cos I am fed up of climbing in the car, putting the key in, hitting the switch, climbing out etc etc, and you have to do this all the time since there is no space in the cabin. The RKE I bought gave a 1 second ground signal when the trunk button was hit for 2 secs on the key fob. I found that if you apply a 12V pulse to the white wire on the back of the trunk switch in the footwell, then the trunk opens, whether the ignition is on or not. So I fitted a $4 relay using the ground pulse from the RKE to supply a short 12V pulse to the white wire. Works like a charm. 2. Next challenge was the door locks. I saw that some people had a second actuator fitted because of the way the central locking button works. I was interested in the microswitch that is made when you turn the key in the doorlock, since this unlocks both doors (and unprimes the alarm), and will also lock both doors (and set the alarm). Turns out that the mircoswitch has 3 wires - one ground and two with 7V. I unplugged the microswitch connector in the door (either door will do it) and found that grounding one 7V wire will unlock both doors and grounding the other 7V wire will lock both doors. So I just spliced into these 2 live wires with the lock/unlock wires from the RKE (which both ground when activated). Again works like a charm with little effort. Not sure if the 944 has the same microswitch setup, but if so it can be done very easily without additional actuators. Linking up the lights and horn was easy enough. Now I have a full RKE for $44 and a couple of hours of work. Don't be afraid of those German Electrics..... ![]()

Nice work. I did the same thing to my 944 but I had to add actuators because I have no factory locks. The power hatch was real easy, splice into that one wire. When you put the relay in for the hatch did you use a postive and neg lead or two positives? My diagram gave the option for both. I used two positives, just wondering what your set up was with the relay?

Thanks John, the cab trunk switch may be slightly different to the coupe hatch, as it's not possible to open it unless the ignition is on, whilst I think for the coupe it is 'live' all the time? Anyway I just used one positive signal to that white wire, and since the RKE unit wire gounds as opposed to going live for the trunk opener, I used the relay - positive to the coil, and the other side of the coil to my RKE ground, so the coil activates when the button is pressed, then a positive to the switchover, and the other side of the switchover to the trunk switch so it gets 12V when the relay activates. So I guess 2 positives.

Yes, mine is "live" all the time. I went to the other side of the switch in the driver side foot well. I found the hot wire and the wire that needed the 12V to open the hatch. I ran a hot wire from the ignition to the relay. The relay is wired to the alarm with a third button for the hatch option. I ran the last wire from the relay to the 12V wire to the hatch motor after the switch in the foot well. My alarm has a 5 second, built in "trigger" for the hatch release. Not sure why and I cannot see any way to get around it.

Hey guys - thanks for the discussion and "Deekay" thanks for a good explanation. I saved it into word and it's going into my "944 documents"

Hello - I have a 91 944s2 from MIZWA Japan that has central locking and what looks like a phone antenna but no phone components appear to have ever been installed. AND NO OPTION STICKER.
One of my locking fobs has broken - just the case - electronics still work. I went to the Porsche dealer to get a new case for the fob and was told it was not factory. So perhaps MIZWA was installing aftermarket remote locking? Perhaps my "looks like a phone antenna" is actually the remote locking receiver? It is a simple 2 button remote that only works on the doors. I'd like to get another fob to repair mine but searching the web has produced nothing. Antenna is about 4" tall - fob is 2" by 1.5". Key attaches at the right hand side. Anybody seen this before? Thoughts? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Brucen ... is this what you want ? .. send me a PM if of interest, they came on a $1500 satellite tracking system I had installed in my 911 and only used for 6 months, .. the remotes have been sitting in a drawer attached to some old keys for years .. happy to sell both the remotes separate.
