Compressor seal kit?

Well, I have had a slow refrigerant leak that I have finally pinpointed to be coming from the actual body of my AC compressor. Does anyone know if there is a rebuild kit available? The compressor works wonderfully otherwise.

I have a rather interesting video to prove it. You can see a tiny amount of oil bubbling.

Can anyone verify if this is the correct gasket/seal kit? Saw it posted on Rennlist...

Gasket Set (KT-6E171N) fits 6E171 Series

I rebuilt mine with this seal kit from Griffiths Technical. Worked perfectly.

I have done this reseal and it took care of the problem. I think you are looking for a 10p15e kit if it is for a late model 944. Call them and tell them what you are trying to do and they will make sure you get the right kit.

The good news- the compressor only leaks if I run it. As long as I never use my air conditioner it will continue to work.

In fairness, it also includes the carbon seal and hardware... but for me it just came down to getting everything all at once from one place or spending forever trying to find the various pieces. Bought this and was done with it.

I only replaced the o-rings and left the shaft seal alone since it wasn't showing signs of leaking and 50k later things are still working. The kit cost around $20 for this. But call them and make sure they sell you the correct kit for your compressor model.

Also make sure you are fully up to date on the type and amount of oil to replace, and the amount of R-134a to recharge with.

Shouldn't be a problem, I am a commercial HVAC guy, ha!
