951 head gasket on resurfaced head?

The PET CD (that came free with my purchase of a porsche sticker), states that there are 2 head gaskets available.

The regular one and one for a resurfaced head?

Pelican only lists the one head gasket? I am assuming once the head is resurfaced you must move to the other head gasket (presumably a thicker head gasket)? Any aftermarket dealers carry the thicker gasket?

For those of you that have a resurfaced your head... (not the one on your body) ...did you need a different gasket.... or is the stock one fine??

So far the poll I am conducting is

3 - No didn't need anything but the stock gasket
1 - A thicker gasket are you on drugs?

When I had my head resurfaced , they didn't take hardly any off. I could still see the faint scraches I put on there with a razor blade. I also used an oem gasket, and actually it was a turbo one come to think of it.

Checking a couple other sources.... you are partly right wannaberacer...

It depends on how much you take off. Some of the engine rebuilders have mentioned that it raises compression when you take a large amount of. So it may be in our advantage to use the stock gasket either way.

also, i might add that when I rebuilt my top end I purschased a much hotter cam, and they were the one's who also built my head. I think because I could use a hot cam, and that the lift went up almost a .05 inches. that there is plenty of leeway for shaving the head before piston-valve interference occurs. However, what must be put into account is the fact that your increasing the % of cc that the gasket takes up vs. the % of the head= head gasket rings are given an increase of pressure=slightly more prone head gasket failure's. But, thats all I can think of.

BTW: I should mention that I owe alot of gratitude to ae1969, Thanks for giving me advice on taking on the project of rebuilding my motor. I learned through that experience that I want to do something with motors in my life. I made up my mind here at ohio u that I want to pursue an ME major (mech. engineer).

geeeeeh ....Thanks for the kind words wannaberacer. You had it in you to begin with, some times we all just need a little push.

Remember you have two choices in life....

You either live to work.....
or work to live.....

Once you figure out which one you want, the rest of your life falls into place.

Good luck in School.... maybe some day you will be designing these cars for us!

Just try and avoid creating an interference engine if you can.....

If you are pursuing a degree in ME - go for a minor in German.

Porsche has an intern program - if you wouldn't mind living in Stuttgart for a couple of years...
