intermediate shaft u-joint
Are they replaceable? Is there any write up doing that?
I don't think we can buy the intermediate shaft for manual steering anymore... |

I replaced the manual intermediate shaft in my 83 NA a couple years ago. 944 Online has them for about $300. Pelican has the same thing for $228.
What I found when I got it, is that it was a new part (Ian used to hacksaw power steering shafts and re-weld them at manual length. That's what I was expecting). I was mildly miffed to find out I paid nearly $75 extra ordering it thru 944Online. Here's a picture of the old and new:  The shaft telescopes - it's made to fit a bunch of applications and it fit perfectly in my 83. Sadly, I didn't record the part number. I believe it's 944 347 031 03 - All you can make out in the picture is "4 347 031." I searched for "944 347 031" and that's what popped up. here:Pelican Parts - $228 vs. $295 at 944Online. I would call Pelican and confirm it telescopes, just to be sure.
