Change in Idle RPM's
Lately, after my 85.5 944 has warmed up, the idle RPMs go up and down, from about 700 to 900 and back to 700, very steady increase and decrease. There is no shudder at the low point, just and increase back up again. It goes away if I increase idle speed to about 1400. What's up with that? A bad vacuum hose? and if so how can I check for sure without replacing them all? I've suspected slight problems with my AFM but have no ammeter & wouldn't know how to use it without shop manuals.Car runs great with throttle wide open. Any ideas?

Vacumm leak is a good possibility.
Check the boot between the AFM and the throttle plate for cracks or holes. Check the AFM for proper operation. Check the TPS for correct operation. Chances are it lies somewhere in one of these components.
