Impulse Sensors

I am replacing one of the impulse sensors and was told that it needs to be set to .8mm. If it is set too deep it may be hit by the metal pin that is used to trip the sensor, if too shallow it won't work. Can anyone tell me how to actually do the installation?
Also, does anyone have a complete schematic of the ignition circuit. I have a Haynes 944 manual and it doesn't show much of the ingition circuit at all.
Thanks
