Porsche Crest Hello to the community

Hi all.
I'm glad to be a new member. I'll be picking up my "new" car this week. A 1987 944 NA. I'm excited about my upcoming adventure, starting with a trek from Boston to mid-TN. I'm looking forward to maintaining such a fine machine; even the challenging parts!

Hello,

I am guessing you have a flatbed to haul the car?

Even if you purchased a PPI-PrePurchaseInspection, the 1000++ mile trip could be "challenging", nerve wracking experience if you plan to drive the 944.

You will have questions and the boards are a good place to start.

GL & welcome,
J_AZ

Yes, understood, but I'm going for it. Weighed costs of trailer, shop repairs, etc. Decided to try getting it home so I can maximize my self-repairs.

But just the same -- anyone located along my route for sympathetic emergency contact??

Anyways it'll be a fun adventure.

Cross your fingers.

I'm in Levittown PA, around 4 1/2 - 5 hrs into your trip.

PM me for my cell number if you want to drop by or if you just want a contact in this area in case you need it.

Good luck.

I'm in Oregon but still willing to laugh if you get stuck on the roadside.

I recommend buying a DME relay and keeping it with you if the car quits. It's a common failure and only costs about $20. I bought an '87 N/A a few years back and drove it fearlessly from Santa Fe to Ft. Myers, Florida. I just bought an 86 951 and since there was little or no records, sent it from Illinois to Florida on a truck. I had no confidence that I would be successful in driving it because of that. Good luck with whatever you do. It's a great car and a learning experience.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Welcome to the forum and the Pelican brain trust. I had a similar trip to go get my car a few years back from Western Ohio to Northern N.Y. I took my superduty F250 and pulled my 2 wheeled car dolly along to bring the car home. I had no doubt that the car could make the trip, but for licensing and insurance purposes over a holiday weekend, I chose not to drive it. Good luck.

Welcome. I've been driving a 944 daily for 7 years now. It would have been impossible without this group. Oh, and if there aren't pics, it didn't happen. We want to see your new ride.

Thanks for the feedback. The 944 community helped make this an easier decision.

Picking mine up in a few hours; stay tuned for pics.

Pop the hood first thing and check fluid levels as well as on the ground. A quick walk around inspection is good practice (for any vehicle actually).

How is she driving?
