bmw v12 in a 944?
I have been saving up to put a ls1 v8 in my 944 but I have been looking at the v12 5 liter engine from a 90 BMW 750i. By any chance does anyone know if that engine will bolt up to the 944 bellhousing or will the BMW bellhousing bolt up to the torque tube? Thnks

I am thinking there is almost no chance of it bolting right up. I don't think porsche and bmw ever diid anything together like say audi and porsch or vw and porsche. Bell housing patterns don't just happen the same.
Good luck with it |

From a guy that knows the bmw v12 there is no way you will have an easy job. Advanced adapters will be your best bet.

Buy a 928. Much cheaper way to get a v8 porsche. And still keep the excelent handling of these cars.

I think I would prefer the maintenance on an LS1.

Sounds valid. I was looking at the ls1 for the 928 conversion and its actually lighter than the 928 motor. About 50 pounds I think. How does it compare to the 944? Your car may handle a little different when you are done.

Weight is between a fully dressed 951 and 944.

@lambo22...obviously you don't live in SoCal, they are a dime a dozen out here, even the LS1 into a 911 is fairly common out here.

I have yet to see one in person. I have seen rx7s, 240zs, and other cars with the swap done but I haven't seen a 944 LS1. Also no matter how many LS1 944s there, I am pretty sure there are more 928s.

Actually, other than the 928 conversion at the Ventura Show (Renegade's) a few years ago, I have never seen one...but there ar 4 944's and a 911 conversion right here in my area, and there are 2 944 conversions racing with NASA and the POC out here.

If you could fit a BMW inline 6 (S54 or S52) in a 944, that would be amazing.

Just do a LS1 or LT1 either one. LS1 weighs the same as a 944 turbo motor supposedly.

MOST MOTORS ONLY REQUIRE A THIN PLATE
to adapt to a bellhousing or trans or drive tube not the hardest part of a swap even if DIYS but any early BMW V12 is an extreme swap do the eazyer v8 swap first I have a fiero with a caddy northstar V8 swap bolting stuff in place is eazy el-tricks and tuning is a bwitch |
