Previous owners and brakes?

I've had some odd braking imbalances since I got this car and while they were not to bad i decided to look into it while I was overhauling the front pistons and cups.

I knew the previous owner had painted the calipers a nice red but had not given it much thought.

However I should have as the previous owner had painted them in one piece, they were not floating as they should, they were stuck together with paint.

This also goes for powder coating as a friend found out to his cost.

Anyway sandblasted and painted ready for the rebuild kits.

The kits are so cheap I should have done it when I bought the car.

Ha! They are cheap, unless you break the butterfly spring...

Had to cut the spring on the driver side to get it out.

Luckily I have a couple spares, hope the passenger side comes out easier when I do it next week.

The rebuild kits worked for me as well. My front passenger caliper would consistently make a "klink" noise under braking due to the piston completely retracting back into the cylinder. When I braked it would then need to clear the gap and you could hear it "klink" against the brake pad right before braking. That drove me absolutely insane. A cleaning and some new seals fixed it.

Caliper rebuilt and all painted.

Quick vacation and then the passenger side will get done (there's nothing wrong with it).

Hopefully when I get back the cookie cutters will be refurbished ready for new summer boots.

For the eagle eyed, that's a re-cut rotor that I did not cover last night as we had a 6% chance of rain.

Unfortunately between six and eight am it turned out to be 100% still it has been cleaned off already.
