ok I'll add to that.

1> power steering oil, as recommended, but dont forget to bleed the system as per the haynes manual

2> Tranny fluid, as per handbook, NOW, you have a few options.
a> either just top-up but if you dont know the history, do b>

B> change it, here we go
1>make sure you have all the bits, brake bleeding kit (the automatic "one man operation" type), new waashers (2) off, have a look at the bolts, IF they look manky got another pair, and of course the oil.
2>remove the upper plug first (filler), THEN remove the lower drainer one (good reason for that any guesses?)
3>let oil drian away.
4>the capacity should be same as mine, 2ltrs, BTW DO NOT OVERFILL, correct is about 6mm from bottom of filler bolt.
so...replace drianer bolt.
5> NOW the clever bit, pour some of the oil into the brake bleed bottle ( there usually about 1/2 ltr) then put the tube into the hole, put the other connection which goes, to a tire (this gives you the preassure) then by magic the oil pumps itself !!
now if the bottle is 1/2 ltr you need to do the above 4 times !

3> OIL CHANGE: if your doing an oil change heres what I did (and worked) I decided to not simply oil change, but flush as well.
The below may sound like overkill but its sound advice trust me !

a> get all the bits in advance, 2 oil filters, 1 bottle of flushing oil,
1 big can of flusing oil, 1 can of cheap 20/50 oil, 1 washer (check the nut if not ok, get a new nut), The good oil, I used Shell Helix plus (a 10/50 I think, can't remember but it was shell anyway)
Plenty of rags, and polythene sheet, and some spare containers

OK

1> simply pour the small can of engine flush (wynns etc.) its main contents is diesel fuel, now either drive it to get all the bits or take her for a 20-30 mile drive

2> once home, put down the polythene, overlapping all over !!
jack the car up, undo the bolt, now the oil will be hot, so use some good thick gloves, a few layers if possible. when the nut comes out hot oil will GUSH out quite far, so beware, let the oil drian, if necessary, jack the car up so that the car is at an angle to ease this, leave for at least 30min's

3> remove the oil filter and bin it, put a new oil filter on and ONLY TIGHTEN BY HAND, replace the drian plug

4> NOw the large can of flushing oil, is usally about 2.5 ltrs ? what ever, pour the oil into the filler, now taking your cheap 20/50 supermarket oil, pour that in to bring the level up, you dont need to fill it to the max, 5 ltrs will be sufficient (as I did)

5> Start the car and leave on TICKOVER only, listen out for noises, and only idle for about 10-15mins

6> stop car, again drain this oil, rmove the new filter, you fitted and bin it.

7> refit the drian plug, fit the "SECOND" oil filter, make sure you put some oil on the sealing ring, again only tigten by hand, measure the cans of oil so they come up to the max mark.

8> when starting the car, leave it to idle for about 5-20 mins,
after the flush it WILL SOUND LIKE A RATTLY OLD TRAIN, this is normal, while the tappets fill up.

9> check for leaks etc, NOW, take her on a 30-40mile drive, vary your driving speed, slow, fast, slow fast etc, The engine for a while, specially on idle may sound rattley but this usually goes after about 50miles

sounds like over kill, but your engine will love you for it.

OH and dispose of the oil CORRECTLY, not down a sewer

good luck

I just love the way Brits talk. Is Tickover the same as "Idle"?

My Specs List

I also have a Torque Value List

Much debated topic, but I'm on the "synthetic" side.

When I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid in my gearbox, there was a distinct difference in the shift; much smoother.

As far as engine oil goes, now that Porsche has approved Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic for all their engines, thats what I'm using. I've only seen it at Auto Zone so far.

Power Steering Fluid... is ATF..
Oil is Synthetic Blend Only.... well, better for cold starting anyway...
Coolant.. is Aluminum Block type..Phosphate Free..
Gear Oil.. (manual).. Ford Heavy Duty.. seems to be the most realistic choice..
If you have a rear wiper.. pop off the cover and lube the gears..with heavy grease.. just enough to coat them.. put it back together..

BELTS!! Make sure you have (all of) them replaced if you have ANY doubt of when and how much time has passed between the last changing our you'll be selling your keister for cash to re-do you engine...
and get into a ritual of maintaining this vehicle. Don'y just slam the key into it and drive it like it's a FORD Foci.. it's not..and make friends with a mechanic, or at least find a shop.. it's taken me about 7 hrs of telephone time to find one locally.. I wanna take my 86 944 n/a to Turbohead but he's pretty far from me..so,.. I still may.. I dunno.. and don't rice it out!!....

Have fun and get used to these cars.. I've owned many (still do) cars and have never experienced anything like the ride that a 944 will throw at you. they are VERY precise. if you over steer. the car will go exactly you point it. So, it's kinda like learning to walk all over again.

just drive man..
