Porsche Crest Post your story about spare parts dealers

I have been ordering parts from various sources in the USA. I ordered a clutch kit for my 951 from GPR PARTS, and it took a lil while to get the parts to me out here in the Middle East, but they got here in great shape.

I ordered parts from Zims Autotecknic, and they ship parts right the same day. The parts get to me in 2 -3 days. Great place to shop, great shipping rates. For core exchanges please inquire about their time frames.

I have now ordered from Ian, at 944online, and Ian is very friendly and helpfull. My parts are on the way. Will keep you all posted.

I work at an independant porsche repair shop. We order our parts directly from Porsche.

If they have the part in stock, we can have the part in about 24 hours. backorder usually runs anywhere from one week to several months.

"We order our parts directly from Porsche."

I tried to get my parts from Porsche for my 951, but out here there is only one Porsche dealer, in other words a manopely.

I bought a speedometer from the local dealer, wich was priced at
local currency of DHS 1033. (US$ 283) when I went by to pick it up, the unit was mildly damaged so the sales manager sold me the unit at cost price, guess how much?!! DHS 500. (US$ 136)

Now that is over 100% profit margin.

No wonder we dont get to see many old Porsches around here.

Perhaps the prices in America and Canada are a lot lower.

Any idea?!!

Actually I meant, directly from Porsche - not from a dealer.

They've been good to me over the years. Example: I had to replace a front bumper shock last month, and they had one - used - for $15 and the local dealer would have to order it with a backorder for $110. I understand that most parts should be ordered "new" but this was a no-brainer........

    Positive dealings:
  1. Pelican (told my wife not to ship overnight, cuz USPS would get there next day, anyway, seeing as how thier only 30mi away)
  2. Zim's. (bounced a check there, and the guy was very freindly, regardless. They have a cap and rotor for half of what you can get one anywhere else. Always a pleasant experience)
  3. vertex (never any problems)
  4. Europroducts
  5. Kragen (CV joints cheaper than anyone else)
  6. Todd Tholyoak (I got exactly what I asked for, and in a timely manner
  7. Partwerks out of Chicago
  8. Elite Foreign Import (my Junkyard. The owner's a nutball, but funny, and he recognized me after only two visits.)

People I have had negative experiences
  1. Performance/Automotion. (They screwed an order up and they still owe me $300+ I'll prolly never see. I'll never order another thing from these people)
  2. Autozone (ordered CV joint and it turned out to be the wrong one, after a 2 wk wait. Tho they did refund my money no problem, and have given me refunds w/o reciept. The local manager is a good guy, but the chain gives wrong parts on more than one occasion.

    Neutral dealings
  1. Circle Imports (just too damn expensive for anything other than warranty work.

I've had very good recent dealings with;

Pelican Parts (although one out of four intake manifold gaskets shipped was incorrect on a recent order).

The Parts Bin and they have free shipping (ground) on orders over $100. They carry major components but not the more specific parts. I have found their prices to be the lowest on most things that they carry too.

Performance Products. They don't seem to carry as many items as Pelican does, at least not online.

I like it...People sharing their experiences regarding part suppliers. Lets face it., we all work hard for our money, and enjoy spending some of it on what makes us tick: our Porsches.
The last thing that we all need is to deal with a parts supplier that does not understand our requirements, supplies us with the wrong parts, while we impatiently wait to get out cars back on the road. On top of that they are rude, crude, to proud to admit they got their nickers in a twist and take weeks to refund your money and admit to the fact that they crapped up.

Thanks to all of you for the above posts. Please keep them coming, it helps everyone that is out there looking after their vehicles. I know it helps me.

Thanks again

I will try Pelican next. Unfortunately for me, what makes me decide are the extra shipping costs wich vary from US$ 70 - US$ 180. Imagine an extra 180 bucks on top of a 200 buck spare part.

I have had good experience with Zims, Pelican, and Vertex. For used parts, PartsHeaven has been good.

Hi Lawrence, great to hear from you. What type of used parts did you buy from Zims? How long did it take for them to evaluate your core and give you a refund? (if applicable)

I received my new parts shipment from Zims today. They shipped me, OEM Engine mounts, complete tie rods, air, fuel, oil filters, spark plugs and a K&N Charger kit. Shipping from Texas, U.S.A to Dubai, Middle East in 2 days via Fed Ex. Freight charges US$ 64.36
They also send me a September issue of Porsche Excellence Magazine. Thanks Zims.

Great service

I think you nailed the spelling. I have asked at least 12 times on as many different posts if they have a will call window, and never to my knowlege got an answer. "but I'm not bitter!", todwic said bitterly.
