Trunk strut idea!

So I was looking at trunk struts that are close to the same length of OEM 944 ones but ones that are less strong. From what I found 80s jeep wrangler is 50lbs of force each and 90s wrangler is 33lbs each. oem 944 range from 60-7bs each from what most people are selling.

Just trying to find something that will not cause my glass to pop open.

If your hatch is popping open, perhaps adjusting the latches would take care of it? Start by just cleaning them thoroughly and lubricating -- when they get old and gunked up, they don't always "close" all the way.

He's referring to the glass polling out from the frame..... the delamination issue.
I use a prop rod on my hatch.

Forgive me -- it's been a while since I've been involved with 944s. I recall a number of years back someone who was redoing those for a fee?

I don't mind just using a rod to keep it open but it would be nice to be able to use the button to unlock is all I'm saying. So I thought a weaker rod should still be able to lift the hatch without the forces trying to push the glass out of the seal.

I think any pressure on the frame is helping it to de-laminate. Instead of prop, I use a pair of vise grips on the strut, and close it on the cargo tie down when I'm not using it.

I just got my hatch back after being re-glued / repaired, not got time to clean off the rubber parts of the 28 year old double sided tape at the moment so have not refitted it yet but it looks like new and is solid again.

id like to see linear actuators used as lift-assist struts, the late 944s had a microswitch on the latch to open the hatch anyways that could be repurposed, and it would only press on the frame when needed.
