1985 944 Engine

What are the issues/problems of taking an engine from a 1985 944 automatic and putting it into a car with a manual transmission? Thanks. JBC

you have to swap the clutch parts onto the auto engine of course
you need to install a pilot bearing.
you need to remove the auto trans fluid lines along the side of the engine.

otherwise the engines and DME are the same.

Rocket, thanks. I have a great running 1983 944 manual and I'm looking for a donor car for parts. I found an 85.5/1 automatic in a junk yard that is the same color, interior, etc. So, I'm trying to determine how much of the junker is usable as a loaner. Sounds like a lot.

By the way, do you, or anyone reading this one, know if the 85.5/1 have forged rods and crank like the 83?

Thanks,
JBC

All 944 cranks are forged. Rods are cast from 84 on in all non turbo models. Even the 89 turbo S got cast rods though so they're OK for strength.
