MPG Gauge Interchangeability

Hi, I'm looking for a new instrument cluster for my '87 and I was wondering about the interchangeability of the MPG gauge. If I were to put a cluster from an 85.5 or 86 into my 87 would the MPG gauge work? Doing some research I came across a couple links indicating it should but I was hoping for some additional input so I could be 100% sure. Thanks!

You can look at the schematics at google: "vol4-electrical.pdf" to compare...

Curious why you are changing the cluster instead of individual gauges?

Will do. Thanks.

A previous owner not-so-tastefully customized the current cluster, broke off mounting tabs, removed all of the light reflecting components, spilled glue across a gauge, and broke several odometer components. At this point everything but the temperature and fuel gauge would have to be replaced, so it's easier just to replace the whole thing.
