dumping fuel flooding and hydro lock please help!!!!!!!!! I NEED HELP
 

I just picked this 83 944 up and I put s new fuel pump in it and now it just dumps fuel like mad did a compression check and checked the injectors for spray and everything and its all good. But it sprays way to much hydro locks and it rolls black smoke out of exhaust and it blows gas out of the spark plug holes. Good spark and everything what could it be? Fuel pressure regulator?

yea, i'd start with the regulator.

Sounds like it could be the FPR. I would recommend you check out Clark's Garage for troubleshooting/replacement of the FPR.

Yes, and do change your oil. A really bad regulator will allow fuel out of the regulating vacuum line.

So did the fuel pressure test and its like 38ps. I had the spark plugs already out and everything so just cranked the engine over and it read like 37 38psi as soon as I stopped turning the key it didn't hold pressure went down to 0 within line 8 seconds does that mean anything? Thanks what could it be??? I need it to run asap thanks

No I haven't ingot the pressures that I posted. Are those pressures wrong? Give me options and things to try please want to get her going. Thanks guys again

The FPR or damper can leak fuel into the vacuum system. An injector can also leak. What do the plugs look like? Does gas come out of the vacuum port on the FPR or damper?

Leaking down in 8 seconds is not acceptable. That high of a rate points to the check valve at the fuel pump but that should cause long cranking times not running phat/rich.

The next step, if it where my car, would to test the operation of the regulator with the car running.

Have you looked at Clark's garage?

Call me crazy, but is there anyway the supply and return line where swapped?

So did it run fine before the fuel pump? What color are the injectors? Do any look newer or older than the others? What led up to this event? IF it is hydrolocking and that is a big if than I would start at the injectors since it sounds like the duty cycle is too high or higher flow that the computer can't properly meter the AFR's. You are sure that you have spark on all cylinders?

A bad check valve won't cause it to run pig rich. Replace the FPR and the damper... especially if they are original. Don't waste your time doing more tests or making more posts until those are done.

Fuel pressure regulator read at 37psi it now slowly leaks down to 20psi and stays there. Spark to all 4 cylinders I sprayed the afm injector and the rpm and speed sensors on the back of the engine with electrical cleaner. It starts but idles very poor and back fires out of the exhaust. It just pops out the exhaust was thinking maybe bad gas? I got the car 2 weeks ago and said it ran but didn't know how long ago cause it was at a junk yard everything is still on the car. The injectors just look black and they all spray. But I tested the ohms on the injectors and it read 2.8 Clarks garage said it should be 2.4 or 2.5ohms and tried to read the temp sensor on the afm and it read nothing for temp sensor. Plugs were BLACK last time I checked them there ngk uridums tho and they look really new still thanks for the help but still can't get it to rev or anything I feel like its almost a miss now or the timing is off? Any way to check or adjust ignition timing? Or how to check engine timing?

Why?

It does not sound like you have checked to see if the FPR or damper are pissing gas out the vacuum side, which can cause what you are experiencing.
