What gasoline company do you use???
I had an interesting email the other day that identified the oil companies that purchased Middle Eastern Oil and who did not. I checked out this rumor (www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/oilterrorism.htm) and the website confirmed most of the rumor. I do a BUNCH of traveling and have always used Chevron, Exxon, or Amoco gas. If indeed this email is true, I’d like to switch to other companies (Citgo, Conoco, BP, or Phillips). Has anyone used anyone of these four companies for the 944, 951, or other Porsche w/out problems? I’ve been burned on $hit gas before (clogged my injectors) and I don’t want to go through that again. Commnets???

Prefer to use Chevron or Mobil in mine - it is high quality gasoline - well worth the extra 2¢
Most oil comes from the middle east - It is a fact of life that it is much easier and cheaper to buy it from the middle east rather than pay to drill it out of our own country (especially with all of the tree-huggers in this country.) Based on personal experience in the ME (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, UAE) - there are places the oil literally bubbles out of the sand. Further, ME oil is generally a "Light-Sweet" crude - meaning it has a higher proportion of the base elements of gasoline and other useful petro-chemicals by volume than in other places. This keeps the refining costs and as a result, gas prices down to a managable level. Does ME oil fund terrorism - if you really want to take the long way around - probably. the ME economy is based almost completely on oil/natural gas production. Are you going to be able to get the oil companies to stop buying? Not no, hell no. Not until we make it easier to explore and drill oil in this country. Special interests whining about the environment will make sure that doesn't happen. (I'm not anti-environment, but there should be some common sense applied - we want to reduce our dependance on foreign oil - allow us to drill it here or convert to nuclear power.....OOps, I said the N word!) Better yet, lets get a government that will force our Israeli "allies" (yes, that is sarcasm) to deal with the Palistinian issue with a degree of fairness for all parties - and one that convince the Palistinians that blowing up Jews is not a way to win hearts and minds on the world stage. Despite the stereotyping you do see on CNN or in any of the other news sources, not all arabs are terrorists. The biggest majority (99.95%) are just normal people. Where Arabs in general have issues with the US is not so much us as Americans (or westerners) as our foriegn policies dealing with that region. The Arab world sees the US, and to a lesser extent, Western Europe as "Pro-Israel, Anti - Arab. Won't even get into the crusades - you may not remember what they were for, but you can ask any Arab... they could tell you. A bit of a side rant here that all started with an simple gasoline question, but by virtue of my old job, I spent a long time (collectively about 4 years) living in the Middle East, so I feel I can speak with a degree of authority. No, I am not a Terrorist sympathizer, nor an Anti-semite. I just think we need to look at how we have handled events in that region and ask ourselves if we aren't part of the reason there is terrorism to begin with. flame suit on AFJuvat Veteran: Desert Shield/Storm Southern Watch Provide Comfort Vigilant Warrior Enduring Freedom Desert Strike Desert Fox

This tree hugger uses Chevron, why add techron when you can buy gas with it already in it. Have been using it for about ten years with no problem in several different FI cars.

to me, that email seems poorly researched, I've always used Amoco gas, holiday gas has a lot of ethanol added, and the owners manual advises against it. Those are the two most common stations around here. I don't think we have Chevron

Umm...well there's a Sunoco on one corner of campus & a mobil on the other corner. Guess which two companies get the bulk of my business...

AFJuvat, you're dead-on on your ME analysis. I've also been to the region quite a few times, and have many Arab friends. Also planning to go study abroad over there for one summer- maybe in 2-3 years.

I'll add more later to this board but AFJuvat I'm w/you 110%. I've been activate this past year and the first thing I told friends and family was that the ME isn't fairly represented by the extremist that have changed our lives forever.
More later.....My laptop battery is about to crash!
