89 S2 Coupe Speaker Upgrade

Probably a repeat question here folks, but what brand/model of current 4 x 6 speaker fits into the door slots without any modification? I have the standard four speaker set up. I'd like to use the factory grills as well.
Thanks for the help

try crutchfield - they are pretty good about what will fit and how easy an installation will be

Soundstream PCT.462 speakers work in the front door as well as in the back

Kappa 4 x 6 in the front and 6" in the rer work and are both very good. Front grilles fit over the kappa fronts but you need to rig up a method to keep them there ... they don't quite reach the OEM clips. I retained mine with dabs of silocene that you can't see and works well. I have some pics somewhere that I will pull out. I have some pics I think. Might take a day or two to find.

Most new speakers are too tall because of the midrange/tweeter centers although there are some that fit. Sometimes there is a spacer underneath or trim piece on top that can be removed to lower the profile enough to fit under the grills.

I've never had any issues getting 4x6's to fit in the doors, but I don't think plate speakers fit...often standard 4 point attachment speakers come with a plastic spacer that goes around the edge under the bolt holes, I've used this in front of the speaker plate/mounting points to space out the plastic cover 1/4 inch from the face of the speaker.

The 4x6 (Pioneers??) I have in the doors on my Turbo fit without the spacers, but JUUUUUST barely...not the highest quality but they sound pretty decent!

I did not make out well here with the same question. I ended up getting some new replacement speakers from Porsche and I had my rear speakers re-coned.
