S2 air filter hidden

The air filter compartment looks like it's buried in the nose is disassembly required

Take your time, it's a bit tedious, but fairly straight forward.

so this insanity with hidding air filters did not start recently with Porsche? I dont have an S2 (944S and a 951) so have not encountered this. when I saw the video about having to dismantle most of the rear of the newer 911 just to change the air filter, in addition to having huge margins on the new porsches figured porsche wanted to increase the revenue/margin for their repair department.

pics?

Imagine if the nose panel was welded, like the early cars. That would make it really tough.

I don't even bother putting those bolts back in and I cannot see a function for them, except to make the panel more difficult to remove. That panel is held on with 8 easily accessible fasteners, those extra two fender bolts don't make a difference.

"8"? Besides the 8 mentioned and the 2 fender bolts, mine, and I suspect more than a few others also have a single sheet metal screw on either side of the crest that also holds the panel to the outside boundary of the intercooler boxed space.

Even so, those 10 fasteners will take you a total of 2 minutes tops to put in, whereas the two at the fenders alone will take you 30 minutes. On the plus side, you will invent new curse words and probably some new yoga moves while reaching under and over the fender at the same time

I've had a couple S2s and bad the nose panel off of each. I do not recall it being too hard. Might have odd panel gaps or rattles if it's not put all the way back together.

Cant you just rotate the panel up without removing the fender bolts?

I just used velcro for my nose panel. Thinking about doing the same for the exhaust to make the clutch job a little quicker.

"30 minutes"? Maybe there is a difference across the years. On my 89, pop up the headlights, get screwdriver 1/4 drive with a small wobble extension and a 10mm socket. insert. and remove. About 30 seconds a side on my car....

There must be a difference across the years, all mine have a bolt and a nut so you need to secure the bolt head while turning the nut. Needs two people, one with small hands. Also, the wheel liners need to come off. I've done it myself but it is a hassle.

On my 85/2 the bolt is part of the fender.

now I am sure your comment on the thread about the clutch job is a joke.
