924 track car engine possibilities
I picked up a 1981 924 as my first real project (after owning ten other Porsches...), and I'm turning it into a track car. I'm considering the engine options...do I stick with the 2.0 and upgrade it to get more power? Do I swap in some other Audi engine? Do I use the 944 engine, exhaust, transmission, and huge pile of parts I already have to essentially turn it into a 924S?
Does anyone have a picture of what's required to mount a 944 engine in a 924 with the original crossmember? What about the 944 crossmember into the 924? I know people have done this but I haven't been able to find any clear documentation of the process.

If you make the car as light as possible, modify the suspension, and raise the compression (with cam, exhaust, etc), the car will be plenty of fun on the track without an over the top engine swap.
Not a GT3, but a blast nonetheless.

That option is near the top of my list. The 2.5 engine is also, because I have a low-mileage complete 1983 944 engine in my garage. All I'd need is a torque tube and some custom work to mount the engine. So that's a possibility.
For now I'm going to put the 2.0 engine back together and drive it a bit, see how I like it and decide where to go from there.

I mean, I already have an engine, transmission, exhaust, suspension, gas tank, fuel pump, crossmember, steering rack, clutch, and so on. That tends to happen when you take apart four complete cars. I'm sure there would be a few odds and ends that I'm missing, but as far as big stuff goes, I'm only missing a torque tube.
