Hello folks i believe i'm facing a fuel system issue with my 87 na 944. A few weeks back in was out for a drive. I traveled about 20 miles than stopped for about two hours. Now the car was running abit rough ( but i think thats timing) ( stupid design). So anyway. As i was heading home, the car would just stop. Like my fuel system shutdown. Now i have a pre jumpered DME relay. I switched that out and the car came back to life. But only for about 15 mins about 2 miles, than shut down again. Switched back to old DME and back to life again. When i finally made it home. i took the fuse panel appart and cleaned all contacts. Seems to be ok. But than driving yesterday after about 5 mile. The car shutdown again. It took a few turns of the key to get it to start back up. Does anyone have any ideas. I think its fuel pump and filter.
Help thx |

The best was to save money and research the matter is to buy a cheap fuel pressure gauge 0 to 60 or 100 psi range and an adapter for the fuel rail. I forget who sells the adapter but it's not expensive. Check with google. Do the pressure checks per the Clarks Garage test schedule and then get a clear piece of 3/8 hose from Home Depot, around 3 ft long and a 1/2 gallon graduated plastic paint pail from the paint dept. Heat the end of the tubing and push it on the output side of the FPD. Run the appropriate test again from Clarks Garage. It's easy and saves you from the unnecessary expense of a new fuel pump, filter and tanks strainer but it will also let you know if there's a deficiency in your system, including a collapsed fuel line. I just did this and it's about an hour of your time once you've acquired the parts.

Thx seven for your response. I will check into this over the weekend. I'm testing another fix from a tread I read yesterday on rennlist. It was suggested and resolved by another users to check the soldered connection on the DME itself. That was easy I already had the DME unhooked for another reason. I found that the 3 points that control between the fuel DME relay and pump had bad spots in the solider. So I fixed them and did a short test drive last night. The car stayed running and with more boost( no lag time when accelerating). So hopefully that was it. But if not on to the fuel rail. Thanks again

Thanks for your info. I'm having a nightmare issue on my 951 running lean across the board. I'm thinking that maybe I need to pull the DME and check for solder joints as well. I can't think of anything else that I may have missed on this thing.
