yet another "what are these for" post

what are these for (see the crummy pics):




... those ought to be around the rear quarter, interior. I took the plastic plug out, and the threads are 1.25 pitch, about 10mm OD, about 15mm depth (off the top of my head). note - if my sig lacks it -this is a late MY, being '87.

I've looked into other questions centered on these ... let's call them holes .... and I already have an idea, but I am trying to keep this thread real simple. if you *know* what these are for, it'd be helpful to know how you know. speculation might be nice, but can easily blow up into a mess.

... what would be very helpful is to know the model year of any users' cars, and any such features in the vicinity of that hole.

They're just big plastic buttons that hold the shape of the panel. If it were smaller, you'd have a problem doing that without additional small screws. It's size spreads the stress of the panel over a larger area, preventing it from penetrating the panel over time.

I agree with what I'm hearing

Can someone share something in writing - or give a reference - from their -'88-and-higher's manuals about this? I already pored over the PET's of these things ... or maybe missed it?

"In writing" only meaning from a manual or something...

Oh also it'd be helpful to see pics of this area in an -88 and up.

oh and - a part number for the big plastic screw would help - I already looked in the PET, so this is something perhaps hidden in the fine print...

Factory from (I think??) 88 up had the reels behind the rear seats on the wheel 'arches'.

It'd be interesting to know if the holes are there in other '87's, and if not, what month that was.
