Electrical problem on fuse #7

The battery was going dead after just a few days after it was charged. I disconnected the positive battery terminal and connected a test lame between the terminal and the battery cable. With every thing off and doors closed , the test lamp blinked at the frequency of the turn signals. I removed fuse #7 and the blinking stopped. I have no idea of where to go next. It seems that the problem is down stream of the fuse. Has anyone had this problem?

Perhaps a related issue, the alarm (key in the ignition) stays on even while driving. this seems to be the same rate as the test lamp flashing.

Suggest you download volume 4 - Electrical workshop manual.

Here's my prior post with links for download:

BTW, I had a similar issue (battery drain) that I traced to the tiny "buzzer contact switch" as Porsche labels it, in the steering column housing; next to the ignition switch. This is the switch that gives power to the door alarm relay (G-16) whenever the key is inserted in the ignition lock.

Since it does not engage the worn key mechanism correctly, the buzzer relay is always energized even when the key is not inserted in the switch. The relay continuously draws about 250mW of current so the battery will loose cranking power in a few days unless a trickle charger is used.

No Volume 4 Electrical Workshop Manual at that link

Anybody else have a link to Volume 4 of the workshop manual?

I'm tracing down electrical gremlins too.

Thanks!

Ted

A common battery drain culprit is the door switch. When the door is opened and closed it de-energizes the window relay circuit. A faulty door switch will leave this relay energized and run down the battery.

BTW what is fuse #7 for?

FUSE #7 is for the clock, interior lights, radio, and cigarette lighter

OK, if the you have an aftermarket stereo on fuse #7 it might be causing the drain. The stereo amplifier may be staying on after engine shutdown, and drawing current through the memory power lead, or other weirdness. Check the current draw with and without the stereo connected.
