This MUST be it (5k+ power loss/stutter)
It's probably what I suspected all along - a bad injector. It seems fine when I bench tested it and I'm on my 3rd set of new seals, but low and behold here it is bubbling away after I shut the car off . . .
https://youtu.be/2bRpGecZCWQ The good news is I've resolved the oil leaks. Had them from the front and rear lower balance shaft and the oil cooler housing.

Did you want to try the spare injectors off the fuel rail again to test this theory? Might just need a new injector?

Already ordered one. It has to be it. No way I could do those seals that many times and still have the same one leaking. I'm also going to pull the manifold. Is it true if they put the gaskets in the wrong way it can interfere with the injector? I suspect that may have happened with the previous owner. I think the number one port is opposite the other three if I remember correctly and I would not be surprised at all to find the gasket backwards.

Correct. 1 is backwards, 2/3/4 normal. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case.
This was on mine when doing the head over and replacing the intake, 3 installed backwards, 1 correct. ![]() |

Oh don't worry. I'm not starting it again until I get a new injector in there and check the gasket orientation. I've disconnected the battery as a precaution.

Not it. Time to pull the intake manifold and see if there's something amiss under there - if not, it may be time to cut my losses. Just getting frustrated. Sell it, the house and go buy a nice Cayman S...

Bummer. I'd clean, and adjust TPS and ISV while intake is off, check and verify all rubber hoses are good under the intake, and triple check your vacuum lines too for breaks even though they are new.

I'd go with the newer style injectors, not the old-timey little potbelly stove ones. I am running them on one of my 968s and one of my 928S4s.

That big crack near the clamp is clear through. I suspect a couple others are as well. Other hoses look great of course, so I assumed (yes I know what happens when you assume) this one would be in similar shape. WRONG. Fingers crossed this is the solution.

Yup that hose is bad, that is why I replaced all mine with the intake off, they might look good, but for the $40 for all 4 hoses, it is cheap insurance.
Both ISV hoses and AOS hoses should be replaced, and new clamps installed. Mine looked just as bad when removed, they were hard as a rock and had major cracks on all of the hoses. |

Well, I ordered new hoses for under there. Whether that fixes the problem or not, I may still sell the house and buy a Cayman S

Sounds good, keep us updated. Hopefully this is your fix, if not, stop by with the Cayman S w/ sharkwerks package and I'll sell both the 944 and the 951.

. . . and beer. You forgot beer! Last hose should be in today. I'll throw it all back together tonight and let you know.

All new hoses and still the problem exists. I'm done. If anyone in the New England area is interested, $1700 and it's yours. 1986 944 Base. Copenhagen Blue. Stripped interior, all new oil seals, hoses, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, lots more. 6 point bolt in roll cage, 2 Corbeau GT seats. Basically a package racecar deal.
Once this and the house are sold, I'll be in the market for a 2009+ Cayman S or possibly 993 if I can find a decent one in my budget.

Wow, that stinks. I cannot think of anything else that would cause this. Bring the beer and the new-to-you cayman S/993 when you can.
