1977 924 ... What's it worth?
Hello Gentlemen:
A friend is considering selling his 924. The car needs AC and heating work, and hasn't run for several years, but was otherwise fine when parked. Any notion as to value? I don't have any copies of Excellence with Anderson's guide to the 924. many thanks in advance. ![]() ![]()

I see some going in between $500 in poor or not running condition to $3000 in outstanding conditon. Good luck. If you have the money, just look for a 944, or a 924S a much better car IMHO.

The April 2002 Excellence market update for the 1977 924 shows a poor condition value of $2,548, a good condition value at $2,897 and an excellent condition value of $3,878. Although, a non running, poor conditioned 77 924 should never sell for $2,500. Interestingly, the 77 924 had only a $1,800 excellent condition value in 1997. That's an appreciation of $2,078 in just 5 years. That's also if you take Excellence's market update for true market value. Some don't.

Thanks for the input guys, you mean this could be more of a money pit than my 914? I'll stay away. What are the real killers parts-wise for 924s?

$300 is about right. I wouldn't waste money on a/c and heat work. This car could make a good little SCCA ITA race car. But it'll most likely become a parts car. Too bad, I really dig the looks of early 924s w/ out spoilers. They're sure becoming rare.

Buy it for 400-500 bucks gut it and use it to race around town...924s are very reliable..once you get them running...but I may be on my own..I just bought an 87 Gti thats a total rust bucket and am all for saving German cars from their demise....scary huh? -chris

Parts are fairly cheap, even for a Porsche. The engine is a slightly modified Audi engine (which was modified from an old Jeep engine) Parts are readily available. Expensive stuff: Fuel Injection parts. If the heat isn't working, check for leaks in the heater core (Pain in the ass to replace). Otherwise could be as simple as a bad blower. AC - dump it, parts are too expensive to be worth the effort - unless you are going for a total restoration. Would remove most of the FI stuff and have it cleaned - if it has been sitting for years, it is probably gummed up. I would say $300, maybe $400 if the body and interior are in great shape. AFJuvat
