Replacing windshield..
Is it possible to pull the windshield out of these things (88 944S) and reinstall it CORRECTLY without destroying it. I've pulled a few windshields and not broken them in my time but someone used what looks like 4 friggin tubes of urethane glue to glue this thing in. The entire channel from the edge of the glass to the body is filled with glue. So full the rubber trim was effectively glued in place. It looked like crap and was curling up on the edges on the body side. I wanted to remove it and replacing it with a new rubber. So I go to pull it off thinking it was just like the one on my 87 NA. NOOOooooooooo.. This thing was nailed down and would not come off without a fight. I'll bite the bullet and put a new windshield in it before I drive this shi**y looking thing. It's an original SEKURIT windshield but it sure as hell ain't no factory (or dealer) install...
On a good note, I was able to get all the window tint off the rear hatch without any real issues other than spending a couple of hours going over it with a fine tooth comb and get all the little bits I missed on the first 10 passes. The quarter windows and door windows were a snap as I had them done in no time. Car is starting to look a lot better. It's still going to need paint in the end though. The clear is coming off the silver all over....

A replacement windshield on the late cars comes with the plastic edge bit already attached to it. From what I understand they cannot be easily removed/reinstalled due to this, and it sounds like yours was reinstalled and they used urethane to make up for this part.

Yeah. I know about the plastic edge. The windshield Safelite put in my 87 NA a few years ago had to be "modified" to get it to sit. The plastic edge along the lower side had to be trimmed off. It's more like a spacer to get the windshield to sit at the right height off the channel in the body. I guess I'll head by Harbor Freight to see if I can get a blade to get this thing out this week. If I break it, Safelite will be coming to my house.

Mine has that too... almost looks like the wrong top "gasket" was used... and they said, "close enough, let's just fill this in a bit and give her some ears."
