Problem with my driver side power window switch

I've got this car for about a year now and ever since I've owned it, I noticed that my driver side pwr window switch, on the down, would be slightly stuck. You know, the little click that I normally feel and hear on the passenger side switch and the driver side up motion feel good, but my driver side down doesn't. I'm suspecting that this slight 'stuckiness' would be the reason that sometimes my window hesitates when I want it to roll down.

Just last week, the driver side click down is gone and now I cannot get the window down at all! I've unscrewed the mount that holds the two buttons (along with the mirror joystick) but I don't know what to do then to see if I need a replacement switch or just to clean/fix things up.

Any suggestions as to what to do (i.e. remove the switch so I can investigate it more) to remedy this problem?

The switch should just pop out. Then you can tear the switch down (take it apart) and clean the contacts. Also clean in and around the pivot points in the plastic. Inspect the spring to make sure it is not kinked or such and reassemble it. Put a small amount of grease into the slots where the pivot is and you should be good to go. If not drop me a line and I might be able to get you a used replacement cheap.

There is a size and mounting difference between the early and post 85.5 window switches. The early larger ones can be popped out the front while the later,post 85.5, switches have to be carefully removed from the back.

In either case you can take the switch apart and clean the insides. The parts for the larger switch have to be put back as they come out while the smaller switch doesn't.

You have to carefully pry off the rocker on each side before removing the rocker from the switch body. Trying to twist the rocker off will break one side.

The newer switch is quite similar to the Audi power window switch of the same generation. In any case, check voltage. With key on, use voltmeter and check either pin 1 or 2 for 12 v. If there is 12 v, turn off key and check the other wire for good ground. If both check, the problem is in the switch itself or in the motor and/or attendant wiring. It is a simple polarity reversing switch. If the early model, when disassembling/reassembling, make certain the "j" shaped end of the phosphor bronze springs are opposite to each other, one "up" at the top, and the other with the "j" facing down. Clean with #400 wet/dry sandpapre (use it dry), clean off residue and dust and reassemble. Piece of cake.

ok, so, I pulled my power window switch, as well as the one for the passenger side and through testing that the switch is bad. I opened the switch and the innards were in shambles, plus, I think I lost a ball bearing. Anywhoo, the p/n is 951.613.133.00. Where can I get one of these?
