Old electrical connector broke during repair

Can anyone tell me what the connector next to the fuel pressure regulator is? The end of this connector disintegrated when I went to plug it back in after changing the fuel pressure regulator.

that is one of the speed/reference sensor connectors. They age and become brittle. You can find replacements on ebay.

Which side disintegrated? If on the right side of the bracket, those connectors are for the speed and reference sensors and are common fault areas that cause a no start. I would replace them with new sensors from Pelican.

If it is the connectors on the left side of the bracket, those go to the DME computer. They can be replaced also, but it requires a more specialized part.

Right side from the front of the engine or from the rear of the engine? And another question, where is other sensor like this one located? I'll get it(them) from Pelican, but the ebay ads reference needing 2.

Pelican calls one of them the Reference Mark Sensor, which I'm assuming is the one in my posted picture. What is the other one called and where is it located?

Ok, a quick trip to Clark's Garage gave me my answer for the second sensor name and location. So the end that disintegrated is the sensor plug end, which is hard plastic with 3 flat male leads.
I'll get both and replace them at the same time.

I would read up on the procedure for replacing these sensors if you haven't done so already. It's pretty straightforward but there are a few things you don't want to do. Some people have had trouble getting the bracket out or getting the sensors out of the bracket. I would soak the whole thing in PB Blaster a day ahead of time to help everything come apart. Also be sure and plug the hole on the bellhousing into the flywheel area. It is right below where you are working and if you drop something in there it's very hard to get out! I know this from experience :/ Just put a small rag in the hole and remember to remove it where you are done. To set the sensor height made a gauge using an old sensor and a filed down washer superglued to the end of the old sensor. If I remember right the thickness of the washer needs to be 0.8mm but I would look that up on Clarks to be sure.

Good Luck, Andy

Both reference and speed sensor connectors are aesthetically pleasing only. You don't need them at all. But if you do, the heat from the bracket kills the connectors faster than without.

Mine are 30 years old and have not disintegrated due to the heat. I'd replace them with new connectors instead of hard wiring them. Because, sure as s**t stinks, you'll have one go bad on you and you'll have to cut open the wiring again. If you're concerned about heat, wrap the things in self sealing silicone tape and zip tie them to the bracket.

I posted a list of connector part# and terminals and links to Mouser where you can get replacements: DIY - Harness Connectors
