Show me your non-bumper pad bumpers
This is a call to all you early 944/924S folks. I'm considering a re-spray this fall on my 944, and I'm wondering how it would look without the bumper pads. Show me your bumper-padless bumpers and win a prize! (OK so there is no prize, except for maybe my admiration and the fact that you get to show off your car). Extra points for black cars.

Still need to complete the "holes" in the end caps, but here's my bumper pad delete rear bumper.

My project car with the pads removed. My body work is terrible to say the least but it came out alright.

Those bumper pads are there for a reason. You'll find out soon enough why if you leave them off.
There's a reason every single 951 I've ever seen has chipped/cracking paint at the tip of their noses.

I hate the bumper pads too, but realize they are impack-absorbing. I've considered removing the pads and replacing them with a thin rubber pad that runs the width of the bumper, similar to euro-bumpers.

VII. I'm liking the side strip delete as well.

I was actually considering putting them back on but think I will go with retro meatball number decals (14" white circle w/black numbers inside) which would look strange with the bubble over the strip. The strip is fairly easy to remove with some fishing line to cut through the adhesive on the back and then a heat gun and some sort of paint safe scrapper to remove the leftover. If you take them off, you can always reapply them later. Best of luck.

Will the 924s bumper bolt right up to the 944? I like the integrated side covers and it seems shorter though that could be a combination of the bumper and shocks.

The Conquest is in fact my roommate's Starion... I'll send him your thumb's up! Here's a closer up pic: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3526/3871422408_bd7172829a_b.jpg Here is a picture of my buddy Mike's car. He went ahead and filled in the holes in the side pieces with a ton of JBWeld and a little bondo over the front. Came out looking great. Wish I had a better pic of the bumpers... ![]()

A few months ago I was just walking away from my car after parking it on the street. A loud screeching noise made me turn around and look...
this lady in a beat-up first generation Cavalier was headed toward the back of my car. She was trying to park but this was no normal parking attempt. She ran over the curb and I could only look on with my mouth wide open as she just didn't slow down enough - - she thumped right into my bumper. I went up to her and she was acting like this is all normal. She doesn't even say anything and she's unbuckling her seat belt to get out until I say: "You can't do that!" "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'll back up" "What were you trying to do?" "I'm sorry I'm not a good driver" From the noise the bump made I was expecting scratched paint and a small dent. Fortunately when she did back up and I looked at things, she had actually managed to slow down enough (probably 2 mph) that with the bumper pads there was no damage. This wasn't parallel parking "park by feel" She had a straight path in. She wasn't drunk or high or anything. Just one horrible driver. I've always wanted to go with fibreglass bumpers, but it's stuff like this that stops me.

theyre stronger than they look. i've had someone nudge me from behind at an intersection- a guy from work. i waved him over after the intersection, checked the back of the car, not a smudge. Waved him off and continued home.
that was a RoW '78 924. In my 944 I spun in the rain at a trackday on Monday. the front of my car grazed the tyre wall. I had a smudge of yellow paint from the tyres on my bumper between my bumperettes. No other damage and easy to fix. ![]() yes they're fibreglass, but they're not exactly that light, they're actually pretty heavy. just dont hit a fence at approx 60kph! (this car had a 924cgt fibreglass replica front though) ![]() ![]()

Methinks bumper pads aren't going to save you in this situation . . .

Yeah, keep the pads. I had some idiot at school try to sneak behind me when I was already 3/4ths the way out of my parking spot. I tapped hit, and got out of the car to look, and he has a nice 90 degree angle dent in his car. Mine still looks good!
