The previous owner lost the key to the locking lugnuts on my car. Is there anyway to do this myself, or do I need to take it to a locksmith? Also, what happens when it's unlocked, does a piece remove or?
Thanx, Greyson

Where have you looked for the key? It's about half the size of the ignition key by the way.
I found the key to the locking lug nuts on the car I parted out in the drivers door map pocket stuck down in the gap between the pocket and the door. Also pull the ash tray and check in and around the hump. Might not be a bad idea to pull the seat too and check under it and under the carpet flaps there. Other wise get a sharp drill bit and drill them out. I need one of the hollow lug nuts that are under the locked caps and will gladly mail you a set of four stock lug nuts for the hollow ones you uncover. ![]()

You can also look in the hatch area, under the carpet: often the Porsche mechanics would 'hide' a second copy of the key there just in case the owner lost his key to the locking lugnuts.
I had them on my car, and I have the key, but I've taken them off: these days people are more likely to steal my whole car rather than just the wheels anyway... (Besides: it's one less thing to do when changing wheels for autocross or track...) -Z-man.

I'll go check it out. If I can't find the key, I'll be drilling them out then. Would you still be interested in the lugs then (After drilled?)

i had my fronts drilled when i couldn't find the key in time for shock replacement. the lugs aren't affected...the lock is just thin metal, that once drilled out, come straight off, exposing the lug.

I took off my locks when the locks themselves began to get stuck/fall apart, etc. I don't use wheel locks on any of my wheels anymore. I found it was more of a hassle to keep track of the key or special adaptor, that frankly, you only used one or two times for the typical life of a vehicle. I guess if you lived in a high crime area they'd be worth it, but mag (ok, aluminum) wheels are so common that stealing them is just not worth the effort (that is, to say, a thief could not fence the wheels for enough money). It's sort of like CB radios and Cassette Tape Players (y'all might not be old enough to remember those things), which were stolen right and left when they first came out.
Then again, maybe I really don't live in a high crime area - maybe it's just that we have real lazy thieves!

Mmm: mag wheels, CB-radios. The memories! Wonder if they're still playing reruns of CHiPs!
