How to remove front seat that doesn’t slide in any direction

Hello All,

I need some help with this one!
Trying to remove my front seat that doesn’t slide in any direction. My goodness, I had an alarm installed in the car back in 1993, afterwards that seat no longer moved forward or back. I was able to remove the front bolts, but there is no way to get to the rear bolts without the seat needing to slid forward. Everything is tight in that area.

Any tips?

Power or manual? If power it can be moved manually even if the gears are stripped, the drive cables can be pulled out of the motors and chucked into a drill and spun. You have to do both at the same time or keep switching sides if you only have one drill or you twist the seat too much.

I bought my car with same problem the passenger seat rails are rusted through I plan on just cutting the brackets and replacing them I can't get to either front or rear bolts for the seats and 1 1/2 can of PB blaster I gave up trying to save them

If you pull the seat release lever then maybe you can use a hammer and a screwdriver to move the frame a little bit at a time. The track is all manual on my cars.

If the release is stuck maybe remove the other seat to see how the systems works and how to possibly attack it.

Also the seatback can be removed to get better access. Does the seat bottom bolt to the seat rails so can you unbolt the seat from the rails while the rails is still installed?

Take your spare tire jack behind seat and by the rear seat foot welland a flat 2x4 to spread out the weight then use the jack to push the car forward while someone holds the seat levet

If it is a manual then you only have one side releasing. Try getting under the seat and using one hand hold the cross rod in place on the other release arm and then try operating the release and sliding the seat.

My issue is I dont have that cross rod piece, when I push on the release I can hear it click and I can see one side of the seat slightly free but with the other side not moving at all due to the missing cross rod. Looking back now I want to chock hold that shop, if only I could go back to 1993!

Yep. No cross rod and the outside will not disengage.. Should be able to do it manually if you can get your hand in there from the back.

I used plyhammer's method along with some long screw drivers.

will any regular car scissor jack work cause my car didn't come with the factory spare tire jack

As long as you can get it to fit in that required space it should be good to go.
Having a piece of 2x4 wood helped with distributing the force and not damaging the seats.

If you use the factory jack to move the seat, be sure to use something other than the aluminum handle that came with the jack..It will break the handle at the crooked part. Just use a 9 or 10 inch 3/8 inch drive extension to move the jackscrew.

I had an issue like this and is was a problem with the crossbar that others have mentioned. The crossbar releases the seat rails to move forward and back. If the crossbar is not attached, you will have to reach under and press the releases by hand or fix the crossbar.

I'll try the jack and seat trick soon I'm done moving I can pull the leaver and see the the teeth lift up but bracket completely stuck....so Toran what is your plans are you going to just replace them or try and clean all the rust

Like Mark said... The stock jack is a bit more compact than a bottle jack . I have had to remove the lower seat upholstery in some cases as well to get to the mechanisms if the car has been taking in water.

have a drivers manual slider and the rod with clips I will sell as bits.
