Passenger side window problem

Hi, 1985 pre-update 944 with a problem on the electric window on passenger side.
Starting point:
Driver's side window works fine.
Driver's switch for passenger window goes down but not up.
Passenger's switch goes up but not down.

What I did already:
I took out the two passenger window switches, cleaned the contacts and reassembled.
Driver's side switch for passenger window goes down not up (same as before), but the passenger side switch doesn't go up or down.

Then:
I swapped switches around so that the working switch is in the passenger side, put the other switches in place, the working switch didn't operate the passenger window at all.

Now:
Basically I have a driver's window switch working fine, a driver's side switch for the passenger window which only goes down, a passenger side switch not working at all and a passenger window which is now down and I can't get it back up.

All switches are cleaned and look ok, obviously I have a problem somewhere (fuse is ok), any ideas?

all the switches are the same but the drivers side switch for the passenger side window goes through the passenger side switch. since you know the drivers window switch functions properly, install it in the passenger side to eliminate that possibility.

check terminal C (brown wire) on the passenger side switch harness being connected to ground.

If you have a switch that works both up and down which i think you do, move it to the the passenger side from either the driver or passenger side. I'm inclined to believe it is not a motor because a bad motor wouldn't work in one direction. I just had a similar problem on my 83. I cleaned the contacts - all is good. I did buy a switch just to qualify the process. Take your time and sort out the problems. There are enough parts out the repair.

Thanks guys, I took the fully working switch and put it on the passenger side and it doesn't work. I just bought one new switch today and will try, really all I need is the two switches on the driver's door working, main thing is to get the window up in case the next track day is raining!

In reading other threads and forums it looks like I need to have a completely working switch in the driver window location as the passenger switch feeds off this. If the new switch doesn't help then I will have to look at the wiring and earthing as I can then rule out a faulty switch.

Fitted new switch to the driver window, the other fully working switch to the driver side passenger window. Both work perfectly.
No switch works on the passenger door side of the car. I will leave it there I think as I don't intend to drive with passengers.
Interestingly the electric windows work with the ignition off and key out of the ignition.
Is this a fault?

On the later cars the door light switch disables some of the accessories after it is opened and closed when exiting the car. A bad door switch can cause mysterious battery drain, among other things. The clicking you heard is probably related...

With the key out of the car, my windows don't work. I have an 83.
