Fixed my own horn relay
So I thought I'd post this for a quicky fix...I'd used the search, got a bunch of hits some helpful, some in depth, but in the end...For my 1987 944 N/A this worked for a cheap, quickie.
Go through all the trouble shooting first.. In the end I pulled the relay, found one of the spade connectors that sticks out of the actual relay, located inside the fuse box, loose and buggered. I took a flat head screwdriver pulled the metal sides away, and pulled the relay guts out. Fired up the ole' solder gun and put one tiny bead of solder on the loose contact point on the relay. I suck at fine, tiny electronics soldering..this was pretty cut and dry easy. Then I put the guts back into the metal case, bent the metal sides back, stuck it back into the fuse box, walked around turned the key on and "Honk!" G2G! It's fused so I hoping if it gets ugly the fuse will pop. It's gonna be fun to see how long this lasts. I never use the horn so I have no idea when it stopped working. Just saw a neighbor a couple of days ago in his field and did a "hey buddy", honk and nothing... Just thought I post this up so anyone else who actually uses the search function like I do, might see this, and be done in five minutes like I was. Cheers-WW |

Well done sir. Now you are ready to tackle the dreaded cracked solder joints that may pop up in the DME relay some day.
