NA Front Turn Signal Connector Grommet Replacement
Hey All,
In case anyone is interested, I've put together a quick tutorial on replacing the front turn signal grommets as they are most likely disintegrated by now ( I performed this today). Unfortunately, Porsche doesn't sell them anymore so finding used ones is the only way (944-612-329-00). 1. Locate both front bumper holes; a 19mm socket is needed to remove the bolts. Gently slide the front bumper toward you on each side and disconnect the turn signal cable connector before completing removing the unit. As you can see, one grommet was missing and the other was shot. 2. Remove each connector by using a pin/socket extractor tool to release the spade connectors. 3. Insert the replacement grommet by carefully inserting each spade one at a time, all the while twisting the grommet. I drew out a pinout diagram so I wouldn't get confused (color-coded for my 84). Slide the grommet back far enough to re-insert the spades into their corresponding connector position. Then (very carefully) pull the grommet over the connector. 4. Carefully partially slide the bumper back on the impact shocks, keeping in mind to re-connect the connectors on to their respective turn signal assembly. I did spend some time cleaning the area behind the bumper (while it was off) as well as organizing some of the wiring that fell off their retainers. Hope this helps someone!

My solution was to cut a piece of large heat shrink tubing, about 3" long, and heat shrink it to the connector housing. While the heat shrink is still hot, use a small ty-wrap around the wire end to seal around the wires. Not OEM, but it is weather-resistant.

Thanks Dmitry! I tend to take a bunch of pics whenever I perform something for the first time; it helps to sink it into my long term memory...
Edek: I've done that exact thing in the past with other connections, but I always try to use OEM grommets whenever possible.
