Is this some sort of diagnostic sensor?

Digging around the engine bay in my 87 NA I found this sensor of sorts. It sits in the bellhousing directly under the speed and reference sensors. The other end is a gray wire with a 3 prong plug on it that's capped off. I've read about diagnostic sensors on the late cars, is this what this is? I don't remember it being on my other 944's but it's been years since then. What exactly does it do? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508185132.jpg

Yep, that was put there for use by dealer technicians (when they still used a large diagnostic machine). Dead weight now...

Thanks George for confirming. What do people use to block off the hole when they remove them? Or do I just cut the wires to the bell housing since the wires are coming out the back of the plug anyway? Hmmm...

The easy thing to do would be to cut the wires, then you would have no hole to block off.
