Can I put an AGP or ASG code transaxle in a 1987 NA?
Hello. Does anyone know about the compatibility of different transaxles across model years? I have a 1987 NA w/ 2.5L. Its 5-sp transmission has a code of 5S, according to this guide:
Transaxle - General Information, Codes, and Gear Ratios My transaxle needs to be replaced or rebuilt. I can find used ASG or AGP code transmissions easily. The ratios in those are different than the 5S, but other than that, are there any differences that would prevent me from using one of those in my car? |

all 944 transaxles are interchangeable and bolt up 100%.
the only *functional* difference is that the 1985.5+ cars (oval dash) use a sensor on the output shaft to drive the speedometer. so as long as whatever trans you're looking at is an 85.5+ model (turbo, S, NA, S2) it will work for you. gear ratios vary a bit, as the guide you posted shows but they are all fairly close.
