Yet another sunroof question, how to adjust slip-clutch?

Finally got around to messing with my sunroof motor and drive cable since my new gears should be coming soon. I found that both nuts for the screws that held the microswitches had come completely loose and they had fallen off. I spent 15 minutes fishing in that well of the bodywork before I realised that both nuts had stuck to the sunroof motor because of it's magnetic qualities. I must have built up some good karma to have found both of those tiny nuts.

Anyway, now that I've got that somewhat adjusted I'd like to know how to adjust the slip-clutch. The microswitches I understand, but I couldn't see how to adjust the clutch.

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.

Aaron

Well im on a roll today. I just fixed my sunroof for the second time. this is what i did, there probibly is an easier way but this worked good for me.
What you need are:
A torque wrench that can go as low as low as 5 ft/lbs
Deep 21mm soket 1/2" drive
long 3/8 extension
short 13mm socket
3/8 drive ratchet
large vise grips

I removed the motor from the assembly. Then i buit the contraption to adjust it.
Put the extension throuch the 21mm socket and attach the 13mm so it can slip inside the larger socket. clamp the vise grips onto the large socket and use the ratchet on the extension to loosen or tighten the two small nuts relative to the big one. Its not sientific but now when i unlatch the roof i don't hear the snapping of plastic gears.
I set the tension on the big nut around 5 ft/lbs. I played around with it until it worked really, but thats what i got when i held the gear with the vice grips carefully and turned the big nut with the torque wrench.
Good luch and you can feel free to find a simpiler method!!

So you're saying that the two little nuts are jam nuts and the large nut is the one that should be torqued to 5n/m?

If that's the way it works, then all I'll need is a flex-drive, my good old inch-pound torque wrench and a couple of sockets.

Or is it that the large nut is the drive nut and the first small nut needs to be tightened to the point where there is 5n/m of resistance on the large nut and the second small nut is a jam nut for the first small nut?

The second way seems more logical to me, but I'm not sure.

Aaron

EDIT: I really hope you didn't adjust it to 5 ft-lbs, and that it was just a typo in your post. The spec is 6 Nm plus or minus 0.5 Nm, and most people agree that 5 Nm is a better target to avoid stripping the gears. 5 ft-lbs comes out to about 6.8 Nm, so if you tightened it that far, you should probably loosen it a little. The ft-lb value to aim for is 4.

Ok mybe it was 5Nm. I just played with it and it now works without stripping the gear. I think that the big nut is the drive nut/ pressure plate and the first nut it the one that should be 5nm and the second is to lock it. I couldnt get the two smaller ones lose so i moved both of them at the same time. Whatever works, works.

Cool. Thanks. I couldn't figure out which nut was the one to torque down.
