Right Rear Inner CV Boot part number

Hi All,

I'm checking the part code for the rear inner CV boot for my
1984 928 4.7 Euro Spec - Right Hand Drive.

I have 92833292401 from design911.com and would just like to double
check this before i purchase it.

Went for the MOT earlier and it passed!!! But i have an advisory being the
Inner CV Boot which for the price and possible further expensive damage it
could cause, i was recommended to get it changed, sounds reasonable.
Don't think i could do the change myself but the MOT station said they could
do it but cannot source the part, which also sounds good, something for me to learn
about.

The item i saw is:

https://www.design911.com/CV-Joint-boot-KIT--Constant-Velocity-Joint-boot--Porsche_3/prod3565/

I have also seen:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-PORSCHE-CV-JOINT-BOOT-KIT-CONE-CV-BOOTKIT-CONE-CV-GAITER-DRIVESHAFT-BRAND-NEW/150920004214?hash=item2323888276:g:bpIAAOSwqeFZedA R

on ebay which is 2 kits however the picture on design911.com shows a gasket but also says
'library picture' so not sure if it will come with a gasket so i will ask them.

i'm wondering if the one on ebay is any good? does it really matter on such a part?
It's not expensive anyway so either is good.
Also would it be easier to just get both changed at the same time?
Or twice the work and not worth bothering until the other one fails?

thank you in advance

Why not just buy from Pelican (the sponsor for this site)?

Or buy from the vendors that actually support our 928 ownership?

Just asking.

CV Boot Kit -

Hey Tiger - The Inner CV boot P/N 92833292401 is the correct kit for your 84 928. Many boot kits are common between Porsche vehicles.

If you are so inclined, the procedure to replace a CV boot is relatively simple and can be handled with basic hand tools. The inner CV boot can actually be replaced by disconnecting only that end of the CV axle assembly.

By the way - the over sized Generic type rubber CV boots that must be cut down to fit any car are typically a lower quality product. Just my opinion but - You should stick with an OEM boot kit designed to fit your 928. Pelican Parts is well known for reliably supplying high quality long life parts.

Good Luck, Michael

Hi Michael,

Perfect thanks. I wasn't so keen after seeing so many different types, the one on *****************
is made by GKN so i'll go for that. I asked them also and they have changed the picture for that part
on their site as it did not show the gasket or CV grease, which was nice of them.
Now i can see the actual parts I will be ordering from them today.

I've just noticed the pelican part item from your link is GKN also!
So should be the same part, great price also by Pelican.

Your advice is great, I will have a good look to see how easy the assembly is and may give it a go myself.
If i was in the U.S I would have bought from Pelican parts without thinking about it.
I have used ***************** before for the service kit as they also have good OEM parts so I will stick to them.

Thanks a lot for your help and advice Michael.

Replace CV Joint Boot -

Hey Tiger - Great that you've located the right CV boot kit. It's not a difficult job to replace a CV boot, but if you've not done it before - Read through the procedure until you are familiar with the "How To Steps,Torque Specs, Safety Precautions, etc..." get your tools together, boot kit and a pair of jack stands.

Good Luck, Michael
