Hey all!
Okay, here is the situation. I have entered a deal to purchase a 1979 928. It has a few problems (looks like it needs a new thermostat), but the real issue is the milage. I totally forgot to look at the odometer to see how many places it records, but I was told it reads a cool 47K. I have service records from 79-83 & 89-99, and they seem to support this though there is a 10 year gap. Even one of the mechanics made a note in 96 that they found the ultra low milage odd. So, 928 owners, how many places does the odometer record? Also, anyone know of a place like Carfax that I can get more info from? (Carfax only goes back to 1981). Thanks!! |

Carfax is about your only bet - you could call up a dealershp and run a service history based on the VIN - that would document anything like a speedo change.

not usually no, just call the service dept and say you bought the car and want a service history on it.

One thing to consider, they can only track what was done at a dealership. If the guy swapped the speedo on his own, there will be no record. A carfax should note a mileage discrepancy.

Again, thanks! Most of the paperwork I have is from one dealer or another. I now hope that the missing data can be recovered this way.

i have an 85 euro. my cousin has an 85 euro. get a compression and a leak down test. i have 110,000 thou and he has over 280,000thou!!! it's a porsche.there is no substitute!
